I visited the Marlin/Kool Cars stand at the NEC on Thursday.

I asked if they had bought the rights to the Strathcarron. I was told, somewhat bluntly, that their car was an original design and that the Strathcarron was still going and due to reappear as a kit.

A quick internet search reveals only gloom for the Strathcarron project.

Does anyone know better?

This is what I have heard.

I have not had this directly from Mark or Terry at Marlin.

I believe Mark has the rights to copy the outline body shape from Strathcarron. This shape has been modified from the Strathcarron design.

The 2 cars are very different other than the similarities in shape.

Strathcarron spent a lot of money trying to produce a limited production car. They use a monocoque construction and a Triumph bike engine.

Marlin use a spaceframe chassis and Rover / Honda car engines.

I have heard 2 stories of what has happened to Strathcarron. From going into liquidation:

1. A small company in Cornwall bought the last 2 shells and set about modifying them to fit Honda Type 'R' engines, to produce as a Ltd production car.

2. A guy with connections to the original company (poss one of the original directors) bought the rights and the name and is looking to continue developing the car.

Lots of stories, rumour and hearsay, but no solid facts. . . . sorry!

For info: I do have contact with a Strathcarron owner and do know the name of both the the people in the stories, but I don't think you need to know those details.
