What are the implications if a kit is still logged as the donor car on the V5? I'm looking at an MK which is still regged as a Sierra. Does it matter?

Thanks for any advice.

I think it probably will at some stage in the future. The most likely problem is (we're told) when all the MOT stations get computerised. The testers will put the registration of the vehicle into a computer which, in turn will tell them what it is they're testing and what emissions limits to apply. It will also go and check with the police national computer and the DVLA and the insurance database (eventually) so they can see that it's taxed, insured, not stolen, written off etc...

Supposedly, not being a "Ford Sierra" will be a "reason to refuse to test". The plan under discussion is then to make any such cars get re-registered. Of course, if you can't PROVE to the DVLA the origins and age of the bits from which it is made, you'll have to do an SVA and you'll get a "Q" plate.

IF (and I have to stress "IF" this all comes to pass, it could be bad news for incorrectly registered kits as many of them are unlikely to pass SVA without having more money than they are worth spent on them.

This car is on a Q plate already so I'm not sure what that means in relation to your comments. I guess a Q plate "Sierra" will still fail an MOT when it's obviously an Indy?

There's a few of these cars around at my budget so I'll probably wait and find one that's straight in every respect, including paperwork.

May be worth having a word with your local vehicle inspectorate. They vary greatly in how helpful or obstructive they can be but you may find yours is happy to just put the paperwork right after inspecting it to confirm it really isn't a Sierra any more.
You could then drive a hard bargain on the purchase.

There is only one piece of advise I would give you on this one........

Unless the car is for peanuts and your not going too use it on the road......

WALK AWAY

It is 100% illegal and you will find you would not be insured should you be unlucky enough too have an accident on the road......the 1st time old bill runs a check on your number and it comes back as "sierra" you would get pulled and that would be game over too, what I don't understand is why, a well built Indy is not hard too get thru the SVA, hundreds have with no problems.

I agree...walk away...

There will be many of such "bargains" as the computerised MOTs start.
