Hi - my husband went out yesterday and bought a replica Lambo - which yeah I agree looks amazing - but ...........................................

I feel really let down at the moment, as I purchased this from ebay, yes the car looked amazing, sounded amazing etc, then 30 mins into the journey home it started smoking, I stopped and couldnt get car started again and wheel hub nut has come off and wheel was dangerously close to flying off.

£352 later with car nearer to home I have a car that won't start, needs a new lambo hub nut, I have no idea how to lock the car.

The guy from ebay is being really awful and is refusing to help me out - he knew there was a problem, but sold it like that - which could have prooved fatal had the wheel come off on the motorway. I wouldn't have minded had he told me the faults, so I knew I had to get them done. AAARRRRRGGGGGGHHHH

Could somebody please help me and advise me where do I start to get a car like this looked at and where I can get a hub nut from and get the wheels re balanced (as you can tell I'm a bit blonde when it comes to cars ) So if anyone out there can tell me what to do - or knows of someone that has a clue and lives near sussex - PLEASE get in touch.

Thanks

Louise

If it's a VW beetle chassis I'd start looking at parts suppliers for them if it's a hubnut you need. I don't know much about VWs.... (where's Ricola when you need him???)

As you've discovered, buying a car through eBay can be a bit of a minefield. I'm assuming you want to keep it, but if not (depending how you paid for it) you may be able to get eBay involved to get your money back. A few thoughts/suggestions which may be of assistance:
If you are thinking of keeping it, I would advise getting it checked properly ASAP, just in case the results make you change your mind.
If you don't already know, try to find out which kit it was built from, and then contact the manufacturer. If they're not too far away, they may be prepared to give it a look over. If nothing else, they can probably put you in touch with people that can provide any bits that are missing.
Was it built before SVA came in, or has it passed an SVA test? If so, where & when?
As a minimum, I'd put it through an MoT test at a garage you trust (if such a thing exists!). At least then you'd know if it was potentially dangerous or just in need of a bit of sorting.
And finally, good luck. Hope it works out OK.

Hi Louise. where in Sussex are you? You could try Sussex Kit Cars at Horam or 7 Indulgence near Brands Hatch. Both should be able to sort you out

Yep, get it checked over ASAP, hopefully it will not have any more faults, but you must check it over!

If it's any consolation, hub related problems like these are relatively minor. If it's a loose hub nut or seized wheel bearing (which sounds likely, from your brief description, then you'll probably find that the car uses Ford parts (certainly not Lamborghini!!) and will only cost a few quid to put right.

It would help us greatly to give advice if you could tell us what make of Countach replica it is - there have been several over the years (Prova and Mirage being the two most successful). Early replicas used Volkswagen Beetle running gear, later ones mainly Ford.

Could you post a link to the E-bay advert?

Lou,

I don't know too much about the Prova but I think it uses VW Beetle independent rear suspension. The stud pattern on the wheels is definately not VW Beetle, but could be Porsche though?

Those wheels are aftermarket jobs and were quite popular for Lambo replica builds. Not sure when and where I've seen them for sale but possibly Elite Wheels, but more likely Europa Specialist Parts.

This guy Theo is using them and he's in the middle of his build so I'd have thought he'd be a good point of contact:

Good luck

Prova's did just use Granada uprights at the front and Granada hobs/bearings etc at the rear, so repairing it will be just tuppence.

If it's the one in the ad Gompo posted, it's on a Beetle chassis, though. Still, equally easy and cheap to fix!

that looks a very well finished car, but 15k for a beatle based lambo seems kinda expensive. 4 people bid on it as well!!!!

still beatle stuff is cheap and easy to mend.

Get yourself down to an aircooled VW specialist, hubnuts are only a couple of quid and I'd be susprised if there was any other damage, sounds like he left the split pin off so I'd definitely get somebody to give it the once over to check for other simple stuff like that!

I think that could be actionable under the Trades Descriptions Act!

Bought on 8 September for £15k on eBay 290024141828

and now for sale again for £19k on eBay 200027452830

Sounds like a typical dealer's markup to me. I obviously have the wrong type of kit cars- I could be earning big money!!!
Cheers

eek!!! £19000!!!!!

i dont really know how anybody can take this seriously!!! a well built space frame countash replica with a v8 seem to sell for around £10-15000 on ebay. there was a pontiac based one on not long ago with a bit of fiberglass damage to the front and i think that only went for around £5000 or so. and come on even pontiac running gear is miles better than beatle stuff!!!!
