Design my nose-cone!
Discussion
Right, seeing the fantastic designs by italo for a '21st century seven' got my juices flowing. That and the fact that my seven has zero downforce at the front for a bit of high speed stability got me thinking that a new front end style could be developed which would use the original nose cone mounting points but which would be full width and incorporate downforce and air splitter elements.
I'm nowhere near being able to mould an entire bodyshell but the same techniques used by Locost builders like me and you to create nose cones and wings could be used to create a one-off-front, remeniscent of what Tim Dutton did with the Pheaton front end styling in the seventies/eightees.
Here's a couple of scribbles with my take on the theme - firstly, the Hot-Rod..
Then, the Hammer-head...
and finally, just completed after seeing the new X-Bow concept roadster, the, umm... thingy!
This has been overlaid on a photo of my seven and may be a bit pale but look closely and you'll see where I'm coming from.
Now if only I was a gifted and talented freelance Italian automotive designer....

David you have mail....
I was wondering if it might be a good idea to use the front-end of an existing car as a basis for the fiberglass work. This would mean I could purchase replica bodywork from a kit manufacturer and trhen modify it rather than building the whole thing from scratch. A couple of quick 'n' dirty mock ups below show you the kind of thing I mean. Firstly, the Lamborghini murci front..
Then a Nissan 350z 'Veilside wide body' nose cone
See what I mean? Actually, I'm rather taken with the Lambo style as the central raised bonnet line would match in with my car's bonnet bulge quite nicely...

I did some research on the subject...and maybe you're better of with a dutton pheaton updated design , than a more modern lambo gallardo front end.
The design would look really disjointed if you applied the lambo front,to a retro seven design...., maybe the hotrod would be my second choice design.
Have you thoight about something like the Kougar kitcar with its jaguar front end, but with more enveloping front wheel design like your hammerhead sketch?....

Purely my opinions so feel free to completely ignore!
Hot Rod - Like this as it flows nicely from the original lines of the car, sort of fusion of Seven and Track-T styles.
Hammerhead - Fugly!
Thingy - This could work but is a little hard to see exactly where the lines etc are going, perhaps a little more shading would help bring it into 3D more?
It certainly does have potential!
I see shades of McLaren, Zonda, Alfa Romeo, Jaguar... really.
I'm seeing a bright future for you Italo, and I'm going to move heaven and earth to get a front end into living-breathing-fiberglass reality.
Hmmm... looks like I'm going to have to get a low-profile filter for my engine, some big rims with low-pro's, new seats, roll bars... This could turn into a complete re-build!
Thanks Italo, I'm grateful, and impressed!

I hope this is ok (I don't want to step on anyone's toes regarding copyright images) but I have taken Italo's design for my seven's front end and one of his old designs from the 'design a seven for the 21st century' thread and combined them to show what a sevenesque full bodykit might look like....
The front and rear clothing looks good together I think.

Are you going for a mid-engine look?, because that earlier sketch has side air intakes.....
No, I just saw your earlier design and thought it looked damn sexy!
As far as creating a real piece of bodywork is concerned, I'm definitely going to have a go at the front-end but I don't want to get carried away and commit myself to anything more complicated than that (unless it goes really well....).
Off now to find some thin plywood sheets, rigid foam and a surform blade to start mocking up the shape.
Watch this space where I will update what happens.
