Precisely. I did mention it at the start, just the AA book doesn't (oddly).
Granted re the leaking seal, but, where is the vapour going to come from in a clutch system, with no heat to transfer into the fluid...WE will find out...later as I have just picked up a Chim in from break down WITH a master cylinder gone....

Practical science...at least it will be water dripping into the foot well not fluid. IMHO I need to be able operate the clutch for as long as it is needed to get it off the trailer and in behind my gates...a fair test I feel!!

It would definitely be good to see what happens if it's filled with water.
As you say, not as much heat so possibly no conversion to vapour/steam.
It should work, obviously only useful as an emergency/proof of theory, as there's plenty of other reasons why you don't want to use water long term,
