Progress being made on the V8 installation.

Opening up the chassis rails will allow a decent exhaust system to be installed that won't fry alternators and allow the engine to be maintained without being a contortionist smile

Next step complete chassis welding and then off for exhaust to JP in April.

Bulkhead either side of the chassis rails will need some work to make thinks look like new again, but its GRP and should be straight forward (for somebody else LOL)
John,

Is that a new chassis being modified, an old chassis being modified or a bespoke chassis?
Some of that tube looks rather chrome/nickle rich or is that just the photo?

It's a bespoke chassis Jon, but one that is very similar to the original

Wouldn't dream if using exotic materials lol - it's good old fashioned mild steel. smile

Andrew,

Yes, I think that is how the car was originally designed. I think I had a conversation with sTeVeR who said pretty much the same thing when I was trying to work out an elegant way stopping my bonnet hitting the ground.

The problem is that many (most?) cars have had new bonnet frames with slightly different dimensions. Your Vixen, for instance, has a revised hinge point with (what I think are) non-original plates on the chassis for hinge point mounts so the bonnet - ground crunch problem is created.

Boris has the best solution so don't go changing it!!

As for the radiator "barge boards", I don't have them but have often thought of putting some in.

P.

P.S. The thought that you could have a twin.....

Got the car on a low loader yesterday so that it can go back to the body shop for bonnet fitting, door alignment, windscreen frame fitting and then final polish.

The winch on the low-loader jammed so it had to be driven on which resulted in the odd hairy moment as you can see here. First time in 25 years that she has moved under her own steam! :gettingthere:

found a bit of time to make a cover for the oil coolers as they hang under the bonnet and are prone to damage!!!!

Brought my car out of hibernation to have some repairs done before the year kicks off.

To begin with I knew the clutch was needing attention, so went up to see my mechanic today and the gearbox is out and we found the clutch cable had been touching the down pipe and the cable itself in a terrible state almost solid, no wonder it was heavy! The plate and pressure plate had also had it so a change was well overdue.

Secondly on inspection the fuel lines were cracked and all need replacing and lastly the rear brakes are having a overhaul which means they might actually work and I should have a working handbrake.

Andrew, could you post the details of the glove box and maybe some photos please; I also need one; is it something that could be made at home?

Thanks
