With regard to a 3000m rebuild, I plan to replace the mechanical pump on my standard essex lump with a Facet Silver Top. Is this model suitable or should I be considering the Fast Road version or even a Red Top?

A fuel regulator is also recommended, I believe. What pressure should this be set at for a standard 38 DGAS?

A silver top Facet is more than adequate for a standard Essex engine. I've used a fast-road solid state one for several years now.

There's no need for a fuel regulator as the pressure of the pump is below 7 psi.

Just to add, it would would be wise to change the push in fitting into the 38 carb for a screw in version with dowty washer, if you intend to use anything other than the mechanical pump as they can blow out under the pressure, also fit a fuel pump diode and relay system which will run the pump via the alternator so that if you have an accident the pump stops!
