Qually lap of combe
Discussion
It's quite on here for video action from Silvestone so i thought this might fill in the time.I'm quietly chuffed with this lap round Castle Combe two weeks ago, especially as i can see at least half a second to knock off next weekend. Finally i seam to be getting the Crowthorne Tuscan on the pace. The aim is to get down to 1:09's by mid summer.see what you think......

Looks and sounds superb. The bonnet is very flexy. It looks to me like you're relying really heavily on the brakes and not much on engine braking into Quarry. Is this correct and if so, is it quicker? I speak as an interested spectator and TVR driver whose local track is Castle Combe

Interesting that you should notice that,I will try and explain what is going on as this is an area of the track i have seen from this video that i can be quicker.First can i say getting a TVR Tuscan round combe in 1:10.2 takes some doing as the car weighs over 1000kg & the driver can suffer from small body parts acasionally.Stopping such a heavy car is a technique that you have to mold to your driving style ( one size don't fit all ) I need to move over to the right more going over Avon rise as i am too much in the middle of the track there,as i,m off line there as i turn in the car is been pushed over to the right more than i would like.Going over Avon Rise flat out in my car certainly focuses the mind.As you pass the apex on the brow, there are as you may have found out three bumps on line.these really push the car about and are responsable for 25% of motorsport accidents happening at Quarry,it's world famous for that perticular statistic. You also have to remember i am arriving at Avon rise much quicker than your road/track car so i am at the limit of the tyres through that section on the line i am using, hence the need to use a different line through there.Oh it sounds so simple when i type that.I can't emforsize enough the bumps on the left apex into quarry do not stop doing what you are doing as you go through, either be on the brakes or be on the throttle but don't unload the car or change your mind at that point,it bites. The other thing i have going on as i go through the entrance to quarry is i have a new sequential gear box that we are having trouble with setting up at the moment. The engine has a bit of torque that we are having difficult taking off the dogs to effect a SMOOTH change. It is you will see very agricultral at the moment. We have Geartronics on the car and have not found the optimum setting for the cut to clear enough torque from the box for a smooth change. We will get there but as we are doing so well in the GT Championship we are testing as we race, no change there then.Hopfully that explains what is going on in that part of the track with the car,add to that i am still trying to understand the aero on the car that i am playing with, adding to the car as we go.It all adds up to steep steep learning curve. If you are at the races next weekend pop into the pit and say hello RetroWheels said:
Lovin' that lightweight bonnet , we've got sheets on the bed with more stuctural rigidity
.
Iv'e heard a few rumours about the ridgidity in your bedroom but alas nothink to do with sheets
.
well come on the door was wide open for that.
thanx for the kind comments i am hoping to post up an improved lap after next weekend. That's really interesting - thank you. Having driven Castle Combe a few times (but never raced there) I appreciate how tricky Quarry will be, particularly at the speed you are carrying over Avon Rise. I think it's very difficult to see the undulation on the video too.
I reiterate that I am very impressed and I love to see that people as enthusiastic as you are continuing to develop and race the cars

Perry. As an added incentive to come to Oulton (unless your writings are your version of Esperanto or just typo. errors) to pass the time between qualifying and race, I will give spelling lessons - for free! Seriously, mate, you are an integral part of this championship. Hope you can make it.

( BTW , both of you buggers should be back out racing with us )
As you all know i didn't have an enjoyable season last year, especially from silvestone onwards for various reasons, so Debbie and i thought we would take a break from DETEC and concentate on the GT's at our local Track Castle Combe instead. We are both keeping an eye on you lot and supporting from our arm chairs. We hope to do a round of DETEC later in the year.If anyone wants to join us in a round of Combe GT's let us know.
