He was simply dreadful - didn't seem to know anything about the sport.
Talking over Brundle and the cardinal sin, didn't know when to stop talking

But at least we have something to bh about !
but we need a name for him

Cock 2 has been mentioned
Gigolo (which came from a licence payers we're paying for "the cock" and a paid cock is a ..)
P45

any other offers ?

I didn't think he was bad at all, actually. But then, I didn't think James Allen was bad either.

But if you insist on an insulting nickname for him, how about: Johnny Leotard?

Jesus Christ. First time he and Brundle have commentated together, give him a break.

I'd choose listening to Legard over letting Allen within 100 miles of a microphone any day.

Yes it wasnt the greatest debut ever, and he really does need to understand that he doesnt need to talk constantly, he's not on the radio now

However it was the first chance he and Brundle have had together and lets face it, he's not James Allen, so that can only be good

I'm sure he will improve, and you can always swap to the R5 commentary

Brundle has started using some old James Allen phrases; "full bananas"

He wasn't really that bad, just wish he'd shut up and let Brundle do the talking once in a while though, but come on BBC, when the European races are on, bring back Murray, if only for one race!

his main fault is he is still performing as a radio commentator.

he doesn't need to describe what we can see, I would rather have a bit of reasoned discussion about the situation of certain drivers etc. than lines like "and JENSON BUTTON is coming, he's about to cross the line!" I can see that on my telly.

I'm just a fan of David Croft - Crofty would of been the best choice to work with Brundle

Leotard is good - but is it insulting enough ?

I didnt think he was that good, but do understand it was his first go and maybe he will grow into the role.

Thankfully on the red button you can choose which commentary you listen to and I have to admit I did have R5L on......davidson and croft do a great job!

It is his first race, so give him time. I did findd myself saying "stop talking over Brundle", or simply "just stop talking ! I can SEE whats happening myself". Once he learns to slow down a bit, I think he`ll be good.

Surely he`s going to be a bit excited in his new job ? wouldn`t you be ?

Give him time. I'm sure Muddly Talker wasnt all that great in his first job either and whenever he was given a new co-commentator here would have been a period of getting to know the other person and building the relationship.

Have to say that Leadbrain had me shouting at the telly for ststing the bleeding obvious. Compared to Leadbrain, the Cocks commernaty was incisive.

Put Brundle in with DC or even EJ.

Have to say I quite liked Jake Humphrey as he knew when to shut up and let the people who knw the sport do the talking.

Personally I thought he was pretty bad. Did he not say 'Formula' wrong in his opening sentence?!

FFS it's the first session of the first race. I hope all of you in your next jobs get told to shape up after your first day rolleyes

Watching the highlights of Adelaide 1986 on the BBC site I thought James Hunt sounded very wooden, apparently he was the greatest man to hold a microphone ever. What does that tell you? You can't judge someone on one performance. I thought Legard was fine, yes a little shaky (at one point I thought Coulthard and Jordan were coming to blows) but you need to give them time to gel. All in all the broadcast was still far better than anything ITV did - it just had a feel of substance. And no friggin' competitions...
