2008 commentry team?
Discussion
Question is, who will ITV rely on to do the commentry for the 2008 season.
I had heard a rumour that ITV were trying to get Ben Edwards to partner Martin Brundle, though I have no idea how true this is, but with the spat between MB and Mad Max over the last week, will MB even get a media pass to enable him to commentate.
I think its a universal thought that no one would miss James 'the cock' Allen, but might they have to rely on him to provide continueity IF MB is prevented from attending the races.
Then there is the matter of the pre/post race shows, I like Mark Blundel, but I think Steve Ryder is as much use a chocolate brake duct, but I cant think who I would like to see replace him.
Thoughts or discussion?

Max cannot stop MB getting a media pass, that is not the role of the FIA. Bernie and CVC (F1's pwners) need all the media coverage they can get. However ITV do need to crank up the excitement factor both in the paddock and also in the commentary box. Look at Sky Rugby who supplied many of the RWC team to see ow it is done properly.
Also the director of Sky Rugby is now working for Bernie re camera angles and better production.

I can't agree more with the above that ITV have to up their game with the F1 coverage, I've been living out here in Germany for most of this year and I love their coverage as you get practice shown on Friday afternoon, qualifying on the Saturday and then instead of the ITV 30mins or so before and finishing shortly after the race you get maybe 2 hours of build up here on RTL, the race itself and then an hour after it finishes going over different aspects, interviewing drives and team managers etc...and the animated satire that is the Eckelsteins is always a laugh too on the build up to the races - final video of the 2007 championship can be found at the link below (in german obviously):-

Loads of decent information delivered throughout the weekend and with Florian König and Niki Lauda being their main TV faces of Formula 1 they always get decent interviews which from watching some of the 2007 season back in the UK the amount of times MB was being ushered away from people this year seemed to be on the increase...

for me they are trying too too hard on pazzaz and failing miserably.
I know its to try to heighten the interest of passive and non F1 fans, but realy serves to alienate the established fans.
Of the approx 1 hour pre race show, how much is actualy interesting, or informative, ( ie stuff you didn't know before?)
Just leaves me cold, plus the cock...
I record most races and fastforward to the MB grid walk watch the race, ( skiping the add breaks at the same time, and that is about paletable
as for the topic, Ben Edwards ( he's met me you know!!) has been good so far He was pretty good at Eurosport back i the day so gets my vote over the cock....... next doors dog would get my vot over the cock!!

I miss the passion from F1 commentary more than anything. They might as well be commentating on the G8 Summit for all the enthusiasm they seem to have.
The MotoGP pairing (Cox and Parrish) work really well - I like the way that they genuinely seem to be as on edge as we are when someone's going for a slightly over-ambitious dive up the inside. You just don't get that in F1 commentary, even with stuff like Lewis' move on Kimi going on.

Um ... I know I am probably going to get slaughtered for this but I , for one, like James Allen.
He's a really nice guy and I enjoy his commentary.
I realise his style is not everyone's cup of tea but I think he and Brundle make a good team and will be more than happy to hear/see them both carry on in 08.

...but a little more use of the "red" button for digital viewers.
For the F1 ITV competition? Didn't I read somewhere that Sky Italia was a better viewing experience?

What a brave chap you are!
I'm a girl!I know people find this hard to believe but I am just an (unrelated) fan of Mr Allen and yes, I do get a lot of stick over it!

Another vote for Ben Edwards and John Watson, perhaps with Martin Brundle mobile around the circuit like Randy Mamola does in MotoGP.
A little less pizzaz as said previously, but a little more use of the "red" button for digital viewers.
Ben Edwards yes, but not John Watson, I was looking forward to his views when Sky had the coverage, and personally hated him as a commentator, he was too dry, too opinionated, and it was almost as if he was always insinuating he would have done better.A little less pizzaz as said previously, but a little more use of the "red" button for digital viewers.
Have BE with MB in the box, Peter Windsor was pretty handy in the pit lane too, so he would be a welcome addition, O, and as was said earlier, mmmmmmm, Beverly Turner, she was a welcome sight at 4am on a march morning.
