Same here - two former drivers to analyse what's happening and no formal commentator to describe what's happening doesn't sound quite right. I'd be worried that they'd tread on each other's toes rather than complement each other.

I assume MB will take that role over as lead commentator, he pretty much did it half the time anyway (correcting Legard) and is a seasoned pro now.

I think it will be the best commentating F1 has ever had on tv, just my 2p though. smile

Now if I were organising the commentary team, I think I'd get them to do a test commentary on say a recorded F3 race and then show it to a bunch of fans to check it was going to work before committing...

...tell me they have done some kind of trial? Haven't they?

I would have preferred David Croft or Ben Edwards replacing Legard if I'm honest, but I'm just glad that Legard has gone. As stated above I think that Coulthard will assume Brundle's old role, with Martin becoming the lead commentator. Provided that Coulthard can suddenly be overcome by impartiality and not keep banging on about Red Bull all the time I'm sure he'll do a good job.

So its Red Bull mania next year then?

I still remember the complaints about the focus on Hamilton, this is going to be even worse.

I had to read that twice, Coulthard?!

Hes a great pundit but not a commentator and Crofty would surely do a much better job!

Coulthard , too much "in my day" and way too much bias towards Red Buuwell.

Well it's certainly good news that Legard has gone. Might have a few beers tonight to celebrate.

God I have that poxy Crash.net website - too many pop-ups, ads and random stuff that doesn't let me read the f'ing thing!

Anyway - surprised. As posted by someone else, I'm not too sure about two ex-drivers who will both surely have a propensity to analyse rather than describe.

I can't believe they haven't given David Croft a shot, who is fantastic.

Should be interesting. Would have been good to give Crofty a go though.

Not meant to be Coulthard bashing at all - I've been pleasantly surprised by how good he's been alongside Jake and Eddie, and I don't even mind his Red Bull bias as much as some seem to.

Just wary that he'll be too similar to Brundle for them to work well together - Tom & Jerry works better than Tom & Tom would, Laurel & Hardy works better than Laurel & Laurel would, Robson & Jerome ... ... actually that last one's not such a great example.

I take other people's point that Brundle might shift slightly from pundit to commentator, though, so I'm more than happy to wait and see.

He's not an unknown quantity though is he. I've formed my opinion over the last 2 years not 15 minutes.
Crofty would seem a more natural choice.

It will be interesting to see what happens, but I can see where it could go wrong. I think the racer - commentator combo is good (provided the people involved are decent). However neither are idiots, and I wouldn't expect either to blurt out crap without thinking, like Legard does. wink
