I think BE is talking nonsense. Europe is key to the success of F1 and has as mentioned earlier a large fan-base. I do think it is good that F1 moves into new markets but some of them have no idea or 'real' interest in F1.

I understand it takes time for things to develop in a new market mind.

I also feel that Europe has some of the best circuits. The likes of Spa in my opinion will take some beating; and the 'magic' of some of the older circuits is hard to create in the new tracks that are being built.

Once F1 discards Silverstone,Monza,Spa,Monaco etc it will be finished
It will be more of a circus than it is now,and as most of the manufacturers are in
Britain/Europe I cannot see them letting it go that far
The travelling alone for the teams will be prohibitive in these economic times
Lets hope his successor hasmore forthought than he does

I understood from press reports that Bernie was giving up F1 as he had signed on as 2nd dwarf for HBO's Game of Thrones second series. Can anyone confirm this is true?
No, he failed the audition...

Sky acquiring the TV rights to F1 Grand Prix is the best thing to happen for the viewer and had everything to do with the cowardly gutless management at the BBC and a bit to do with Mr Ecclestone.
I hated football going to Sky and yet we have fabulous coverage and one of the best leagues in the world with the largest global audience via 2 dedicated channels. Sky's promise of uninterrupted coverage on a dedicated F1 channel is superb news along with increased coverage of the teams, drivers and practice sessions. Sky HD is £10 per month, the BBBC licence fee is £12.10 per month.
If you fail to keep up the payments with Sky you lose the channels whereas with the BBC YOU CAN GO TO JAIL! It's about time F1 fans think outside the BBC box and see what Sky is about to do for F1 and I for one will rejoice as we will have lots of in car options for the race, Martin Brundle and David Croft is a great combination and let's hope Anthony Davidson and John Watson can become involved too.
Is anyone else ie PH'er going to Melbourne for the opener?

Stands are irrelevant in modern F1. Quite frankly I'm amazed they haven't contemplated just adding them in by CGI yet.

We also have to consider the impact of the new bribery laws in Europe. These laws effectly mean an end to Europe competing against the new world. This change isn't to be taken lightly at any level. Anyone in Europe can now go to jail if they are seen to be incentivising a deal. Stupid, stupid, stupid. The world is bent and very few deals internationally can be done without bribing the correct politicians and businessmen the correct amount. It is business facilitation for them.

India and China et al won't argue with Bernie when he asks for something to be done. You only have to look at the total fiasco that is the BRDC to see an entity that no one in their right mind could be arsed to try and do business with. A mass of semi senile, self serving, egos and some extremely crooked businessmen.

It is all about TV and selling goods, so focus will be on the places where you have the most eyeballs with the most amount of disposeable income. We are working extremely hard to ensure that it will never be Europe again.
Bribery Act point is an interesting one. There must be a lot of people in motorsport worried about that one. Not the best news for the Act that the first prosecution was a court clerk!

In my tiny Belgium we have been able to view in direct
absolutely EVERY 2011 Formula One Grand Prix on our RTBF1.

Was I tired after this year's last GP, or did I really hear that
the BBC would only show A FEW GPs in 2012 ?

What a pity; I prefered it to the Belgian transmission
with its frightful flemish-accented speaker and his SO VERY BASIC comments.

I suppose I'll have to look a motorcycle racing...
At least I won't hear or see Bernie!

And that isn't going to change in a hurry but go and ask Ferrari how many units they expect to sell in the BRIC countries over the next 5 years and how many they expect to sell in Europe in the same period. That information alone will explain why F1 will decrease its exposure to Europe. At present it would be like advertising Rolex at a drop in centre when there is a 5 star casino next door.

How many of you have known a great man, once the world';s leading xyz, only to see him loose his magic in old age, it happens to almost all of them.

Whatever arguments about what he has done and achieved for F1, he is slowly loosing the plot. CVC are his bosses now, sooner or later he will have one octogenarian brain fart too many and be shuffled towards the door.

Nothing new here. Bernie has been saying this for a long time now. Objectively he is a business man first and foremost, and a very successful one. The audiences, interest and money in new locations such as India, Russia and the Arab states far outweighs what we in europe can offer him. Don't get me wrong the sooner he is gone from F1 the better (however that comes about) from a fans perspective it's a cleat argument that we are the home and origin of motorsport but from a business perspective we are not where the biggest profits lie. There is no ban on tobacco advertising in these new locations which has always been a bone of contention for bernie. He is without doubt a dinosaur that needs to go but a very succsesful one.

I don't know about forecasts, but in 2010 Ferrari sold sold just under 478 cars in China (inc Hong Kong and Taiwan), the Middle East took 349 and the UK, the financially crippled, debt-ridden UK, took, er, 467 new Ferraris. 58 more than in 2009. the US bought 1576.

In the first 9 months of 2011, Ferrari sold 384 cars in the UK, the US 1436, while Greater China (which includes Taiwan and Hong Kong) did 542 cars.

The BRICs are coming, but Europe and the US still counts for a lot of business...

Yup.

Bribing is evil.

Smoking is evil.

Cars are evil.

Petrol evil.

Banking evil.

Being rich is evil.

Low tax is evil.

Attractive girls are evil.

Europe has been clearly telling F1 to fk off for over a decade, it's steadily banning its sponsors, taxing its customers to death etc etc. Chuck in the imbecilic track owners and their inability to organise a piss up and it's a wonder we have retained so many dates to date.

F1 is a visual bellweather as to what is happening to many industries as Europe regulates and taxes its doors closed for business while at the same time the new economies are open for absolutely anything.

It is no wonder that the sponsors and the media companies want less and less to do with Europe. Bernie is only responding to his customers demands which is for more and more races in the markets where TV rights are most valuable and the sponsors can sell the most product. And for each of those he has to cancel another to make room and the European dates are almost certainly at the top of that list being the least lucrative.

At least it is on VT4 without the French wink
but still the lads prefer to watch the BBC broadcast and Telenet has better picture quality on BBC than you get back in Blighty
I'll stick to BBC1 HD via Freesat here in the Kempen

His French is absolutely appaling, and his comments don't bring anything;
Gaëtan Vigneron on the other hand does his job very well.
