Hamilton to Mercedes

Hamilton is seen as God's gift to F1. He is very good, but.....
With McLaren behind him, only 1 championship so far and that was only just - 1 point?
Agreed it was only 1 point, but, this was with the FIA doing its best to give the championship to Massa, the 'real' points difference was in the order of 20 or so.With McLaren behind him, only 1 championship so far and that was only just - 1 point?
Also not forgetting that it was a McLaren strategy error in the last race of the season that cost Lewis the championship in his rookie year (whilst also beating his twice world champion team mate into the bargain).
Why would it be a bad move for Lewis? It might give him a kick start as, let's be honest, McLaren have fked things up more than once this last couple of seasons haven they?
McLaren also need to up their game as well due to their inconsistency so I might be a good move for all concerned. Not sure that Lewis is motivated by money tbh & hasn't he said as much in the past?
Lewis might be 'comfortable' at McLaren but is that enough? He sometimes seems to be completely demotivated & I can't imagine his mood will have been helped by watching JB disappear off into the distance at Spa last weekend.
If Schumacher does quit this year Mercedes will need to get hold of a top class driver or risk having the rug pulled from underneath them with the result that they also quit F1 & then what happens?
From a personal point of view I would love to see Lewis in a Mercedes next year. It would certainly shuffle up the pack somewhat & would make for another interesting season.
Monza will be interesting I think to see just what happens.

My thoughts? Whitmarsh should go before Lewis moves anywhere.
Bring Ron back, Whitmarsh is a nice chap but (to the outside observer) looks too soft to kick real ass - something Lewis needs IMO.
He can and should win 2 or 3 more driver championships, but he needs a more consistent team behind him and better guidance from someone close to him such as his Dad or Ron.
IMO

McLaren already have their own engine in the MP4-12C, they are more than capable of producing a race engine if they chose to.
Whitmarsh has said at least twice now that whilst building A race engine is feasible, to use it and full scale race it in their F1 cars is not as to develop and build a competitive race engine requires the financial and production resources that only a major car company has access to. And he went on to state Mclaren are always going to be looking to be partnering with an engine supplied by such a company for the F1 cars.Whether that changes remains to be seen but Ron Dennis has long stated that profitability from the road car arm is not going to be coming any time soon so I doubt it very much.

This is just brinkmanship / contract negotiations from Lewis. He will stay at maclaren. This is all about money.
I fail to understand why he thinks he should be earning (even more) money. Certainly in these times he just needs to accept what he is offered. He would still be making some serious money anyway. He is not in the position to demand anything imo.
Now this is in the Daily Star so maybe just maybe it should not be taken as gospel, but it is very funny reading

On the new points system, Massa would have won.

What, the same double world chamion that was outdriven by a rookie in his first season in f1!?
It's a damn shame as it was Mclarens only chance of winning a drivers world championships in the hear future, and they seem to have let it slip.
And no, button can't fill the role, he made hard enough work winning the one championship his won, in a car that was BY FAR the quickest on track, with his closest competition being his fellow team mate that was working out his pension fund during most part of the season.
It's fair to say McLown's have made tits of themselves yet again.
Disagree.... when JB won the title, that car was only good for a few races. Once the rest of the field caught up and surpassed the Brawn, he had a really hard time to keep the points lead. I watched the championship highlights recently and was surprised by how hard he had to work for it, as my memory thought it was a walk in the park! It's a damn shame as it was Mclarens only chance of winning a drivers world championships in the hear future, and they seem to have let it slip.

I'm no McL fan at all, but Lewis has made as many mistakes as the team. Definitely 50/50 between the pair of them, so you really can't say the team cost him anything when he's his own worst enemy too.
All this is just based on speculation by EJiot. He may have been paid by the dwarf to st stir to get Mercs to get their house in order. I personally think this thread should be suspended until he signs for whoever
It does make me laugh this forum. The opinions about a guy, LH, who really just wants to race a car without all the BS and only a few people really know. 27 yes, grown up? who cares. What race car driver is truly grown up? If you want to have a go at someone for this, then point at the pricks at XIX who are blatantly exploiting a naive raw talent. As they have with most of their clients.

I would say Lewis Hamilton would represent a great investment for Mercedes.
I think he would have the 'beckham effect' for them. Someone said 'Hamilton underpants - no thanks'.
Well, maybe not pants, but within his group of fans, Lewis Hamilton does have a band of particularly clingy and devoted individuals*, who will probably buy an awful lot of tat...sorry, merchandise, with Lewis Hamilton branding. He will sell road cars. And that is where Mercedes make their bread. Also a nice line in Lewis Hamilton duvets/pyjamas/hats/t shirts/ action figures etc etc. The man is still a commercial goldmine.
2). an insistance that getting the same number of points and the same number of wins constitutes being 'completely outdriven by a rookie', where as most with the ability to count would call it being equalled by a rookie. (Don't get me wrong, still impressive, but lets get our contexts right)
3). Following on from point 2, constantly citing this 5 years down the line and convieniently ignoring how people can grow, change, develop and get better - thus rendering irrelevant the fact that the information is quite out of date.
4). Hamilton can do no wrong. He would win every race if events outside his control (but usually inside McLarens) had not conspired to rob him - soemtime deliberately. I am fairly sure I remember someone accusing McLaren of gifting wins to other teams to spite Lewis.

Very very credible story - LH has got right up Mclaren's nose recently and he seems much more interested in a media career than spending time like JB with engineers etc - his form has been poor and that has been laid at the feet of the team - maybe so but he seems mentally all over the place - compare to Alonso who you've got to admire for his 'inclusive' attitude with his team - very similar to Schumacher's approach (before he retired for the first time!.
That tweet at the weekend was the behaviour of someone that has done a deal somwhere else - it was too cocky and absolutely gauranteed to make Whitmarsh and the rest of the team go cross eyed - LH absolutely knew he was leaving Mclaren when he did that. Schumacher is def on his way - the Ecclestone senile gaff said it all - and LH to Merc. Ross Brawn will be like a big Uncle to him and I think it'll work out.

Agree with all of this to be honest. It's interesting to see Jenson and Lewis's posts on Twitter a lot of the time, Button doesn't tweet a huge amount but it's all fairly normal stuff about going training, spending time with his Mrs, being at the Mclaren factory etc, Lewis has the odd tweet regarding training and being at the factory and a lot of 'bigging up his homies' That tweet at the weekend was the behaviour of someone that has done a deal somwhere else - it was too cocky and absolutely gauranteed to make Whitmarsh and the rest of the team go cross eyed - LH absolutely knew he was leaving Mclaren when he did that. It all just gives off the impression that one driver is more concerned with his image than his driving, right or wrong it may be.

This! Made me laugh out loud at my desk too It all just gives off the impression that one driver is more concerned with his image than his driving, right or wrong it may be.
Ross Brawn said a few months ago;
Who ever signs with Mercedes for next year will be there at least until 2014
(due to the transition in the engine regulations..they want a stable driver pairing for feedback etc)
Can Schumacher go on until 2014.. does he want to be locked into a contract for that time?
Probably the reason why he is giving it a bit of time to think about it.
Mercedes Board are probably dissapointed by the lack of success, they may push for a driver like Hamilton.
Once they get rid of the late Honda era esque unreliability that has sadly shown it's head again within the team...
