RE: F1 2013: Will you be watching?
Discussion
What i noticed from last year Sky and BBC coverage was nearly identical even comments from commentators sharing the same feed from FOM. Both ask the same old questions and get same boring answers mostly pretty dull fillers. FOM is where my biggest gripe lays because they often miss key or exciting bits of racing just to focus on the top 5 teams.
Sky package is very poor value for money considering the amount of adverts its verging on ITV's ad break infestation repeating the same old story of the day and offering nothing new or different; so the massive content on Sky in relation to BBC is wasted airtime you could watch on youtube from years ago with more depth.
Final thing is BBC highlights if they don't have airtime to broadcast live they could put whole race up online afterwards instead. The Melbourne GP is enough for me to consider cancelling my Sky this year already.

Don't get over excited as they won'tbe anything like the bonkers 80s turbos; thay are all V6 single turbo and they will develop about, let me see,500bhp les than a qualifying spec 80s turbo. practice coverage, bbc hd or 301 freeview? But next

I'll watch it the way i always watch it. Record it on sky plus, watch the first 10 laps, fast forward to the last 10 laps. Everyone is where they were before i FF'd so no time wasted watching the sponsorship procession.
Were you surprised with the race over the weekend then when you got to the last 10 laps and found everyone was in different positions?RockDoctor said:

I get the F1 channel free as it is bundled in with the HD package. Yes I pay for Sky and the HD package, but F1 was added to it gratis when I already had it, so essentially, it was a free addition for me
Just call me mr pedantic but its inclusive not free you are paying for it......and I suggest it replaces whatever other sport 'filler' there was previously. As they say there is no such thing as a free lunch ;-)I was paying for a package already, they added F1 at no extra cost.
Depends if your cup is half full or half empty I suppose

Exactly what I do on my Humax, and rewind every time you see 'replay' appear at the the top of the picture to see what's happened. It saves about an hour of watching exactly the same shots of exactly the same cars going through exactly the same corners.:J: said:

Hmmm its not half full or half empty, they have just replaced the cheese and onion sandwich with a cheese and pickle one.....nowts for free, no such thing as a free lunch trust me you are paying its just you are happy with the change of filler and if you are happy to pay who am I to say otherwise, enjoy the viewing.Depends if your cup is half full or half empty I suppose

What did the F1 replace then?
No idea, possibly repeats but whatever it would have replaced something. How true the following is http://www.f1fanatic.co.uk/2013/03/07/sky-f1-chann...
But it doesn't look free to me
"The cost of watching F1 on Sky in the UK will rise to £510 per season next month.
On April 9th the Sky F1 channel will become part of the Sky Sports package which costs £21 per month on top of a £21.50 per month Sky subscription (excluding offers), with a minimum 12-month contract.
The F1 channel is currently part of the HD pack which costs £381 per year (discounted to £349.50 at present). Existing Sky customers who receive the F1 channel through the HD pack will continue to do so after the move. According to Sky, 4.5 million subscribers have the HD pack.
Sky is also planning to offer on-demand access to Sky Sports via its Now TV streaming website. This service, which does not require a Sky contract, will offer 24 hours’ access to Sky Sports, including the F1 channel, for £9.99.
Nine of this year’s nineteen races will be shown on free-to-air television in the UK. All the rounds are being shown on Sky."
No such thing as Free to Air either the TV licences pay for it on BBC or advertising on ITV who writes this stuff !!

Suck it up tightwads, Sky haters and missinformed News International haters- Sky is fine, clean the moths out of your wallet, cut the fags and beer and get Sky and watch all the testing, practice, qualifying and races live, if you don't want to see them, don't pay, YMYC.
Do sod off you presumptuous so and so. I do want to see them. I don't want to pay, therefore I embraced the totally legal route of RTL+5Live. If you want to throw your money at a billionaire with numerous governments in his pocket then go ahead, but don't expect me to think it's a good idea and not to use my informed choice to do something different. Nothing gets my goat more than people who presume to know my motivations, and assume they are of the worst kind. If you went into a pub and told me to "suck it up, tightwad", you'd get a punch in the face and deservedly so, so rein your neck in.

Err. It is correct. You do not have to pay anything to be able to receive it, ie no subscription.A TV Licence does not change this as it is required anyway, regardless of whether you watch sub-free or pay TV.

Signing up to pay £510pa in April would probably be a bad idea. No doubt it is a stick to encourage those tempted to sign to do so this month. How true the following is http://www.f1fanatic.co.uk/2013/03/07/sky-f1-chann...

Do you get similarly angry when visiting the zoo, or cinemas?Watching F1 for nowt* is not a right, it's a privilege we in the UK have been lucky to have enjoyed for many many years, although ITV's crass decision to interrupt the race with adverts took the gloss off it.
I kind of miss watching F1, but since binning the telly tax means no more live TV, I'm willing to lump it. Other than the delightfully leather-clad Suzy Perry, I don't think I'm missing that much really.
"*" Yeah, TV licence, I get it.

The subscription pays the licence and also content such as F1 for the BBC.A TV Licence does not change this as it is required anyway, regardless of whether you watch sub-free or pay TV.
If the BBC is transmitting F1 they pay Bernie et al for the right to do so, this comes out of a subscription which is called a TV Licence that the journalist is incorrectly calling free to air and is clearly not correct........therefore its not free, don't pay the TV licence you can not watch 'free to air' or any other program on a device that has a television receiver. you pay you can receive......its not free!
In answer to the original question, Yes, I will be watching F1 in 2013
As it happens, since Sky started covering F1, I`ve watched their coverage exclusively. I prefer the Brundle commentary and with Crofty they have a great team IMO. Don`t particularly like Lazenby.
I already subscribe to SKY HD and additionally Sky Sports to watch Rugby League, F1 is a bonus as I don`t pay any extra to watch it over my current subscription.
If I didn`t already subscribe to Sky HD but needed to take it out to watch the F1, I would do. I watch every race live when I can and the enjoyment I get from watching it justifies the cost to me.
