Awww g'wan, it's funny seeing the armchair expert designers creep out of the woodwork and offer their opinion based on 5/8's of fk all experience and engineering knowledge. hehe
Exactly the reason why.

I'll give you my 5/8's of FA experience. The Ford looks the best. Shame you can't buy one that comes anything close.

I agree on that one, had a poke round one last year and it's a very smart bit of kit.

I've also got a thing for the Skoda S2000 but can't quite out my finger on why!

I agree. The noise is something else. Disappointed they've banned 4WD from the BRC this year. I enjoyed hearing Jonny Greer's Fabia roaring down the country lanes.

Skoda seem to be the only manufacturer to offer a model anything like their rally car for not much wonga.

It's all about the arches.
The best looking rally cars all have wide arches.

I've just had a couple of hours spare to rewatch all the Monte coverage again.

One thing that really struck me was just how late and hard Solberg was braking into the hairpins, almost to the detriment of his mid-corner and exit speed.

I haven't quite managed to figure out whether this is just him getting used to the new machinery or if it's just his tail-out loose style of driving that so many of the Scandinavians are famous for.

It looked to me like he was making up heaps of time under braking but losing it all again on the exit (with regard to Sordo and Hirvonen).

I think it's going to be really interesting watching this develop over the next few rounds. There's no doubt about it that all these lads have some extreme pace.

I also wonder whether Loeb was quite happy to watch Latvala steam off into the distance for the first few stages and was then sat there with a sly grin on his face thinking (err what's the french for) 'I told you so.'?

Loeb isn't the master in Sweden that he is on the tarmac rallies, I think he knows that and always drives just for the points there.

Hirvonen, Solberg and Latvala will make it a great fight as they will all be out to win that one. Sordo and the Mini are a bit of a wild card for this one. I'm almost tempted to stick a few quid on him for a podium.

Can't wait to see Ogier out again in the Skoda, some fantstic driving from him at Monte.

I saw what you are saying about Solbergs braking too. im not sure if its just that he’s not as at home on tarmac as loeb/sordo are, and possibly just using his normal gravel braking technique?
Not so sure I’d bank on Sordo getting a podium at Sweden tbh, his best ever finish there is 4th and this year he has a lot more competition in WRC spec cars! If you do put money on, make sure it’s not the mortgage money! wink

absolutely, and Louise Cook too. she did a great job of making it to the end despite a few mechanical difficulties and having to run the snow/ice stages on normal winter tyres picked up for £45 each from a local garage, which turned out to be worse than normal road tyres

the top WRC boys were on £300 a tyre Michelins

That's what rallying is about!

I remember many years back at Rally Ireland being at a refuel stop, we were waiting there to check some kit on a works car due in for top up.

A privateer car comes spluttering into the refuel area and conks out about 15 metres from the pumps. A group of us went over and pushed him upto the pumps and he then enquires about the cost of the top-flight fuel which was the only stuff they had.

It was some stupid amount like 10 Euros a litre. This (Irish) privateer obviously playing the 'I'm a poor Oirish farmer help me out here lads with a bit of a cash discount on that can't ye...' game pretended to almost have a 'heart attack' at the cost, so a bunch of us put our hands in our pockets and cobbled together about 250 Euro just so he could continue the rally (they still had a stage or two to run before getting back to service).

Then he pulls out his wallet and I swear there were enough 50 Euro notes in there to buy himself a new car let alone a tank of fuel.

Top bloke though, bunged us a fifty to buy some beer later that night and with a nod and a wink said something like 'That's the spirit of rallying...'

Great to see Stage 1 Technology will be back in the WRC at the next round with their tracking system.

Fantastic stuff.

Stage 1 Tech (previously ISCT) have a system (that as I've alluded to) has been developed to work in ALL environments for World Rallying. Thousands of man hours have gone into the development of that system and I'm really happy to hear that these guys are back in the job.

The return of Stage 1 Technology also means the teams won't have to rely on stop watches and pit boards to feed mid-stage information to their drivers, with the return of split times.
So can I claim a 'lah lah told you so' from another thread where I said 'They'll all be back to using stopwatches and paper and pencils'. As I said a shocking state of affairs for the WRC.

I wonder if they are still using the satellite kit?

(and of course everyone knows his name is not Simon, it's Robin hehe )

He must have figured the whole ‘don’t try, don’t get’ thing was worth a go! lol

Similarish story from this years RallyGB. During Shakedown a mate of mine found a wallet on the floor in the competitors parking area (we were marshalling on shakedown), picks it up and opens to find any form of ID, it only happened to be the wallet of a Mr Sebastien Loeb! As he was on his way over to the Citroen area to hand it in Loeb was walking towards him. My mate handed him his wallet, Loeb opens it up looking in the cash part, notices hes got nothing, gives my mate a sorry look and a says ‘sorry on a rally I need no money’ then checks to see if he has anything on him he can give as a thank you but was only in his Racing overalls. Then decides all he can do is give him a handshake and a merci. Before running off to finish some Shakedown laps.

Harsh as it is! Definitely stand by it now!
I’ve already briefed the mrs that once the wedding is all saved for, all my extra cash is only for Rallying, foreign ones included, and told her if she plays it right I may book a holiday to coincide with it, she gets a week by the pool I get a week chasing the WRC round parts of Europe! lol

His name is Simon, if you are refering to the chap in the article who runs the timing systems.
