Maybe the BBC will cover only the European races as part of cutting costs?

I just looked on Virgin Media on how much it is to upgrade to Sky Sports and its either £14.50 a month or £22.50 a month!!!!

A joke.

Money grabbing twunts.

Was looking forward to Berkshire finally getting Freeview HD next year for the F1. Irony is that I'll now be able to see even less than I do in SD now... s.

BBC, you must keep these races. Don't accept the sandy races and hungary as a substitute.

Ffs, this is st.

we need to start lobbying the teams etc. as well as complaining to the BBC.

this really is un-acceptable, can you imagine if they suggested doing this to Wimbledon on the like?

No way am I paying Murdock TV to watch F1

Well i'm not paying that greedy st murdoch, and sky coverage of most stuff is terrible anyway.

So only half the races live for me. :-(

The rest through online sources if possible.

Bye bye F1...been a few great years on the beeb and now the slip back into obscurity

Thanks Bernie

Swapping two circuits that produce good racing for a new "pure Tilke" track?

I don't think so sunshine.

I feel this is a huge mistake and we will see a dramatic fall in UK viewing figures. I do not have Sky Sports and will not have the will nor the inclination to pay for it. I agree that the BBC coverage is wonderful and I am much more interested in following the sport than I had been in the ITV years. Sky must assume that the viewing figures are high therefore they can jump on that and increase their subscriptions as a result. In my opinion the BBC coverage is actually a large proponent for the increasing viewing figures not just because the sport is more popular now.

When they say the BBC will only broadcast half the races live I presume that they will be able to do a full re-run as opposed to just highlights afterwards?

Very bad news for F1 and us.

This is terrible news. IMO a major reason the last couple of seasons have been so enjoyable has been the exceptional coverage by the passionate and engaging BBC team.

You cannot beat a programme presented by a team of people that are clearly enthusiastic and "get" what they are talking about. Not to mention the blindingly obvious feeling that they often would do the job for a fraction of what they get paid, just because they enjoy it so much.

There is no chance you will get that from a bunch of hired guns with sharp suits and pearly whites like we will inevitably see on Sky.

I cancelled my Sky Sports subscription over 6 months ago for these reasons and one other thing. I guarantee they will not show F1 on the same Sky Sports channel every time. (That way you could save money and subscribe to only one channel) Oh No – you will see it bounce from SS1 to SS2 and 3 from one weekend to the next, thereby ensuring you have to subscribe to the “Full Sports Package” at twice the price, because you have no idea which channel it will be on.

wkers.

Worst news ever! 'free to air' model hmmmmm money talks!

Even worst news, twitters reporting James Alan and Louise Goodman to return on the commentary for Sky!

I do hope I have read that wrong or it is a joke.....please prove me wrong!

Surely the teams won't be happy with this?

Truly hacked off with all this, stupid decision.

Also, has the new Concorde agreement been agreed/signed yet?

F1 on Sky would bring my viewing of the sport to a close. It's inconceivable that it would have a net positive effect on viewing figures in the UK, although I doubt they'd collapse catastrophically; there are a lot of people with Sky Sports.

I think the question is whether the sponsors (and therefore Bernie) can see a big enough threat to their revenues to do anything about it.
