I went last year, although working, but looks good as a spectator. They let all of the fans onto the track before the start, and introduce all of the teams/drivers on a big stage setup in front of the pitlane. There was a band etc. in the paddock/infield area on Saturday night.

Lots of people camping on the infield made for some interesting sights! Worth a wander round at some point. http://jakobebrey.com/search_results.asp?champions...

It gets dark pretty early, so there's a lot of night time action, lots more than Le Mans. From memory it was dark by 6.30/7pm.

Agree with the weather, it was really hot during the days (compared to January here), but got chilly in the early hours. It was odd watching the fog suddenly appear, there was about 2 hours behind the safety car this year!

Thought it was great myself, and would like to go back next year. I think my boss has his eye on it though...

The race preamble is usually pretty cool. Most US sporting events have a little razzamatazz before kick-off and the Rolex is no different. It's close proximity to Patrick AFB usually means some form of military fly-over as the Star Spangled Banner ends and fans are allowed on the track and in the pit lane before the race starts.
Thanks to the sequester, military flyovers are basically a thing of the past. The WEC/ALMS race at COTA and the USGP at COTA had heritage flights of old WWII warbirds, and I don't think the Indy 500 got a flyover either.

I'm going to the 24 this year for the 1st time. Glad I found this post, it has some good tips. I hadn't even thought about heading back to the hotel for a few hours sleep on Saturday night. Or getting a taxi there. I'm staying on Daytona Beach and had planned to drive there Thurday, Friday and then Saturday for the whole race. Think I might taxi it on Saturday so at last I can have a beer!

Has anyone got any more tips/experiences for the 24. Flying on Friday so getting excited!

Going for first time this year. Is the Budweiser Party Porch a good time and view?

I read somewhere that the views are good from there, if you want a good view of the "bus stop" area. I'm going for the first time this year so I can't vouch for the views or how crowded it may be.

Ticket info here:

http://www.daytonainternationalspeedway.com/Ticket...

I would go for the 4 day which includes garage access if you are going to be there the whole time from Thursday thru Sunday.

Event details can be found here:

http://www.imsa.com/races/rolex-24-daytona

this page includes the official entry lists by class and also the schedule for example the qualifying sessions are on Thursday afternoon.

We're flying in on Thursday and will be staying in a villa in Davenport near Orlando. Think we'll just rock up on the Saturday morning and drive back to the villa for a few hours shuteye before going back for the last few hours. Can't wait to be honest! Thanks for all the hints and tips everyone smile
