Honda Racing F1 Team launches pioneering environmental concept
The Honda Racing F1 Team today announced a major new initiative for the 2007 Formula 1 season. To help raise awareness of the environmental issues facing the planet, the RA107 F1 car will simply feature a huge image of earth, in place of the advertising and sponsor logos which have featured and dominated all other F1 cars for decades.
The car’s new look is a powerful call to action for fans, sponsors, customers and members of the public to join Honda’s commitment to help address the environmental issues facing the world.
Via the websitewww.myearthdream.com, anyone who wishes, will have the opportunity to have their name on the car, make a pledge to make a lifestyle change to improve the environment and make a donation to an environmental charity. Under the concept of “our car is your car”, each name will form a tiny individual pixel which will help build the image of planet earth on the car. Each name will be visible on the website when you make the pledge or under a microscope on the car.
Universal Music, the largest music company in the world, and Gatorade are the first global brands to partner the team in this exciting new concept. Existing partners have enthusiastically embraced the idea and all remain involved with the team for the 07 season. In addition, the team is delighted to announce that Fila, IBM, Instron, Oliver Sweeney, Perkin Elmer, Showa Denko, TUV and GF Agie Charmilles have joined the roster of team partners and suppliers.
The Honda Racing F1 Team will work closely with global environmental charities to develop Honda’s existing environmental ethos within the world’s most high profile motor-sport.

Hmmm, looks very cool - especially the black bit at the back that forms the 'edge' of the earth.
Not sure I particulary like the concept for an F1 team though, a bit too "happy clappy everyone hold hands and love each other" for my tastes. I prefered the old school Honda/Mugen livery.

Yeah, I'm sure that the image will go down well with an industry that used to cook up special brews of fuel, built qualifying engines, thrown away bodywork or titanium exhausts after just one practice session & had tyres that were only good for a few laps. I know that cars now are now built to slightly more durable regs but its marginal. F1 can hardly claim to be environmentally friendly until it embraces alternative fuels & is less profligate with resources ie does not require motor homes with a small nuclear reactor attached to perovide the power or run vast wind tunnels on 3 shift basis for 365 days a year.
A cyncical marketing exercise, and one that I think will backfire.

I'm a firm believer that cars that don't look like good racing cars don't win races. There's no scientific logic behind this, it's just a thing I have.
Winfield Williams', Early 90s Ferraris, Mid-Wing Mclarens, Half 555/Half Lucky Strike BARs. They all looked toss and never one a thing.
I'm undecided on this Honda thing though. It's a bit bizarre. Cool.....but bizarre. And I'm not sure how 'bizarre' fits into my theory
It reminds me of the Audi R8 paint job a few years ago for the ALMS race of the millenium when they painted it in the crocodile scheme, except this looks more abstract and just doesnt seem to look right, maybe if they did something with the black engine cover then it might look more finished.

Christ almighty, is nothing sacred anymore? Is there no element of society that isn't jumping on this obsessive bandwagon?

Don't agree 100% with the environmental bit but do quite like the idea of having a name on the car wonder what it's going to cost?
