I'm sure we will see him replace Fisi - but I actually hope he gets left out in the cold....

Fisi's already packed his bags and belongings from Enstone.

He's def out of the team - "he's not very happy"

That would presume that the verdict for the Renault case has not already been decided. scratchchin
That deserves one on these

Not in a cynical way, more in a 'thank god I'm not the only one that think that way' way.

Autosport reporting that Flav thinks it's 60% that Alonso will be at Renault next year.

So who will be at McLaren next year???
Just listen to the Autosport podcast and basically they reckon that who ever goes it could be the end of their career because Lewis is so good.
Now there's an opportunity going begging for a young driver. Oh the irony of a McLaren number2 being told to turn down the wick and allow Lewis to pass.
I'll surely choke to death laughing next season.

I would love McLaren to take the position of a dedicated #1 with Lewis and a #2 with another, and play the game the Ferrari way for one season, just to show what a farce it was with the MS/RB show. After this year the "sport" deserves nothing less.

Alonso's carrer is going to go nowhere for the next few years, he has lost his way and unfortunately for him lost his competitive seat. The 2008 season is a3 horse race between Mc Laren Ferrari and BMW If you are not in any of these cars you will be at best midfield. It's likely Kovalienen will take the Mclaren seat and this will be a deserved boost to his career and not the end of it as someone said earlier.

i'm not sure, i'd be suprised if RBR and renault were as weak in '08 as they were last year

i can't see any alternative (apart from rosberg) but i still think that heikki in the mclaren leaves them with two *very* young drivers...

i think Alonso has overplayed his hand in a big way. he had it all at McLaren and binned it for what? hes done a Villeneuve - ego too big for a car.

i agree that his career, bar something unexpected, is over. the game moves on and he hasn't got a competitive drive. in the year he spends in the wild, there could well be another world champ (Lewis), or Kimi gets it again.

and if he goes to Ferrari with Kimi, he will be playing second fiddle yet again. i can't see Ferrari having a level playing field like McL, and i can't see them elavating Alonso above Kimi either. Kimi will most certainly have his feet under the table as well.

so that leaves BMW in 2009.

BMW might be a possibility, but the two German manufacturers think alike more than they do differently.
The shit that Alonso pulled this year would not go far in Munich.

I hope Alonso gets a competitive seat and does well. I don't like the way he went about things this year and I wanted Hamilton to beat him but Alonso is still a great driver. He won 2 WDC at a very young age, had a messy year this year, but above all else I want to see as many drivers fighting it out at the top of the leader board as possible.

Just for the record my favourite teams are:
1. Williams
2. McLaren
3. The underdog

Would love to see Hamilton, Kimi, Alonso, Kubica, Rosberg all taking points off each other with a couple of wildcard wins to keep things interesting right up to the final round. Maybe even Honda causing havoc in the midfield......... well we can all dream right?

FWIW - Alonso to renault, Rosberg to McLaren, Heiki to Williams (he'll be good)

Right - off to fantasise about something else now

Has Button signed for Honda? could we see him slip-sliding his way out of yet another contract before the new season?
idea If Button left Honda then Brawn could recreate his dream team with MS as his No 1 with Rubens as No 2 and bring Stepney and Byrne in from the cold

Good post. I know Alonso hasn't done himself any favours during this (last) season, but he is still one of the top 3 drivers out there, and until Hamilton appeared on the scene, in my view it was a toss up between him and Kimi as to who is best. It would be a great shame if he were not in a competitive car next season, offering the alluring proposition of seeing Hamilton, Raikonnen and Alonso going head to head with each other. All three are championship material, and I for one can't wait for next season. Some of the new(ish) guys might also spring a surprise or two, so here's hoping for a return to exciting racing without, hopefully, any politics and "shenanigans" to detract from it.
