He was on Radio 4 this morning thankfully talking about football but the presneters did have to pull him up when he said in his report that ' (can't remember name of overpaid ball kicker) literally lost his head'

Made me smile!

I recall a horse jumping commentator saying a horse had "quite literally" jumped out of his skin. It hadn't of course. What is wrong with these people using the exact opposite of the language they should be and being paid for it - grrrr. Maybe they are descendants of old gladitorial commentators and old habits are dying hard.

Yes, he's popped up on Radio 4. If it wasn't for his rep I probably wouldn't have noticed as it's nowhere near as bad on the radio, but he is still absolute rubbish if you listen closely. Fortunately Radio 4 presenters aren't likely to tolerate his crap the way they do on 5 Live. Ruined my morning it did.

to be fair using the extreme opposite of what you really mean can be a way of adding emphasis... not all language makes strict logical sense.

But saying what you mean when being descriptive is generally a good idea. A bit like punctuation really.

That's literally the funniest thing I have ever seen!

(Well no, but I too am fed up hearing 'literally' being used as some sort of badge of authenticity for mundane sights and experiences, often linked to overprotective 'Mummies' in SE England, there was a particular outbreak of 'Literally' hysteria when the alleged fox attack in suburbia happened, with breathless birds going on about how they had 'literally' seen a fox walking across the garden - fk me, were they expecting it to hover? Walking is the norm!)

Poor fking Jocasta having to scoop up Rupert before he was 'literally' eaten by the fox!

Probably drowned out the crowd noise with his SHOUTING.

Anyway, I'm glad he is working,it was only in F1 where his style clashed, he is a radio commentator rather than a TV one.

Yes, I agree. Better still, I don't own a radio!

If MB tuned into the University Boat Race on BBC today he would have heard a familiar voice.

A team was still "pushing on around a bend", the resident pro (Dan Topolski in this case) was still being interrupted and the drivel flowed faster than the Thames.

Oh how we don't miss him...

I caught it as well - and thought the same. I don't know much about rowing but I could still tell how much one team was ahead of another - Legard couldn't !

Quite enjoyed the race - but think they need to fit some type of battering ram on to the boats wink

Or would the toaster in the bath thing work in a river with a really big toaster just before the start of the race?
