Mid week updates ? whatever next...
Sad news first of all, Lynda Petty, wife of Richard Petty passed away with week, she'd been battling cancer for four years.
Hamlin has been cleared by doctors to race this weekend as they've managed to get the sinus infection under control.
And a bit of fun, a (very) imaginary twitter conversation between drivers, post Fontana. Gave me a giggle or two anyway: http://msn.foxsports.com/nascar/shake-and-bake/tex...

Martinsville this weekend.
Cup & Trucks only.
Truck race is Saturday, green flag is 7:45pm our time. No TV coverage here.
Cup run on Sunday, green flag is 6:13pm our time taking in to account the time change here on Sunday.
Premier Sports are showing the race on a delay, coverage will start at 9pm.
If you want to follow either race live there are naughty ways that we don't talk about or you can follow the live radio here: http://www.mrn.com/?homepage=true
Schedule:

Weather could be an issue, more for Saturday than Sunday but who knows. NASCAR do have Air Titan at the track, speaking of which the v2.0 has been unveiled, this is basically a smaller version that is still as effective. The smaller size means NASCAR can take it to more tracks and deploy more in the bed of track vehicles.
Darrell Wallace was fastest in practice for trucks, followed by Ryan Blaney, Timothy Peters, Erik Jones and Ben Kennedy.
Not much extra news in Cup, I'm interested to see if Larson can get to the front again and if we see a 6th different winner.
Another article to read, this time from Brad Keselowski, titled "Moving On, my rivalry with Carl". It sounds quite sincere, what do you guys think ?

Such NASCAR, very sponsor : http://jalopnik.com/doge-and-dogecoin-are-actually...
So the truck race was cancelled due to weather and is currently scheduled for after the cup race.
Reports from the track are that they currently have intermittent, patchy sleet (!), forecasts are all over the place so its anyones guess, but it may well clear up.
If anything official is announced I'll post again.
update: 35mins or so to go, weather has dried up, its still pretty cold but cars are uncovered, we should be good to go.
Truck race runs 10:30pm our time.

Naughty words:
"guess we get to fight afterwords because Im going to fk THAT GUYS fkING FACE"
Welcome back Kurt, we've missed you
Fair play to Kurt, you have to admit he is a changed man the way he kept his cool, he would have reacted much differently in the old days to keselowski's baiting. When keselowski caught him after the pit it was keselowski who was doing all the pushing and trying to get a reaction from Kurt who mainly ignored him. All the more impressive given that Kurt was running well down the field at this stage and was convinced his race was over yet he still didnt throw the towel in. Claiming the victory should help him mature even more and stay out of trouble in the future. keselowski hightailed it fairly quickly after the race. "guess we get to fight afterwords because Im going to fk THAT GUYS fkING FACE"
Welcome back Kurt, we've missed you
Any idea why keselowski even stayed in the race? At 31 laps down he was never going to achive anything.
Texas will be interesting

You score points all the down to 43rd position so its not unusual. On a bigger track if you're judged to be too slow NASCAR will want you parked in the garage.Texas will be interesting

Texas - all eyes will be on tyres. Like Fontana and similar set ups as its fast and bumpy.
According to this: http://www.driveraverages.com/nascar_stats/drivery...
Brad earned $118k for sticking with it. I'm not sure how much of that money goes to the team and driver, either way its worth staying out if you can, I guess they may have sponsor obligations that may require them on track if possible ?

Texas this weekend, Cup & NNS.
NNS is tonight (Friday). Green flag is 1:45am Saturday morning. MotorsTV are showing it 6:25pm Saturday evening.
Cup run Sunday, Premier sports live from 7:30pm. Green flat is 8:15pm our time.
The big news this week is that NASCAR have announced they are looking at engine changes and reducing horsepower. This might happen for 2015, but nothing certain. Very much still in a consultation phase. All the reaction I've seen is negative. I haven't figured out what the real reason is - some say its a money thing, others to "improve" the racing, others say its a safety thing to keep speeds down. Maybe a bit of all three? What do we think ?
Brad Keselowski has another blog entry on the Martnsville incident with Kurt: http://bradracing.com/races/stp-500/road-warrior hmmmm not sure if I buy it Brad!
Jeff Gordon has raised concerns about the tires after several drivers had issues at Fontana, he thinks wee'll see the same at Texas as the tracks are similar (fast & bumpy). We'll see I guess.

Part of the attraction to NASCAR for me is the fact that the cars are big, heavy (about 1.5 tonnes) and stupidly powerful with some nice basic touches such as a plank at the back for a spoiler and a 4-speed H-shifter! It makes the car particularly exciting on road courses as the drivers basically pilot a very powerful angry cow around what are some of the best circuits in the world!
ETA: On tyres (or taaaaaarshh if you're Larry Mac), the fact that they had 17 failures but continued is simply unacceptable at a fast venue like Fontana. I think after the embarrassment of Indygate 2008 they'd rather not stop every 5 miles for a caution though.

We are on hold at Texas due to rain. They have the air titan at the track and I read about 20 minutes ago that they had started drying the track, although its still raining apparently.
Either way, the race might not run until evening, quite possibly even tomorrow.
Did anyone catch the Nationwide race ? Seems we've got some very good rookies coming in to the sport these days!

Fantastic nationwide race yesterday and I guess that old air raid siren in Dawsonville was spooking the hell out of some of the newer, younger residents on Friday night.
