Well, thank God for that. Now I can put my deposit down knowing I have the quickest car
These records are pretty irrelevant to all bit the small handful of people who are looking to buy such a car. It's all about the companies chasing PR. Find me a driving road where you will ever know the difference between these hypercars.

Woooow! Every Pagani I see, is just plain gorgeous!
I had the pleasure in getting some pictures of 3 Zondas this week... this one being a very special one.... a 2011 Pagani Zonda Tricolore - 1 of 3 worldwide - Cost £1.3 million...there not cheap these Paganis!
I think this maybe my new dream car... lol

I think the rules for "fastest Road car lap" should include driving to and from the circuit, buying a weeks shopping on the way back from a supermarket and getting a Happy Meal at a DriveThru.
There's a drag race for road legal cars, the drivers have to do 10 miles (or something) on the public road and fill up at a 'normal' petrol station.Porsche 962 was never a road car the Dauer is not legally a Porsche. Pagani have made enough of these to satisfy the rules and so are the current leaders of fastest road car round the ring.
You can drive Zonda's every day ask EVO's Harry Metcalfe-he has one, not an R but it does have shopping room. Meanwhile I think you are all right irrelevant to everyday motoring but it is certainly a halo car for the Zonda range. What comes next from Pagani? Has anyone seen a prototype of the next car? On the subject of supercars, wouldn't we all be bored if they vanished for ever.
I hope a Zonda is at Festival of Speed -Zonda Tricolore is rumoured-has it ben confirmed?
See you all there. My 20 year old 964 is looking forward to meeting old chums.

I was under the impression that neither the 599XX nor the Zonda R were road legal, i.e. they cannot be driven on the road? In my mind that means you can't call them road cars. If I'm wrong, was that particular Zonda R road legal? What tyres was it using?varsas said:

The devil is in the detail and in your statement above you have whole hartedly MISSED the details it seems. The article states "road-based car" and not "road legal car".
By that it means that there are a load of road cars called the 599 in the same way there are a load of cars called the Zonda. So what are these two cars that set "apparent" records? Well they are just much more focussed derivetives of these road cars which from a marketing point of view demonstrate to perspective (rich) owners what the cars can be capable of.... or not as the case may be!
The fact that they are road legal or not is irrelevant. If they were road legal then i'm sure they would be shouting about the fact that it would be a "road legal" record.
As for those saying its completely irrelevant piece of news, well I find it quite interesting tbh. Not from the point of being a perspective owner but because its nice to know that after Pagani have spent all that time and effort to create a "racing" car, that it does actually deliver on a track as oposed to just being a "show queen".

Don't get me wrong, but this is Pistonheads. Who cares if it's irrelevant if it's fast as fk?These records are pretty irrelevant to all bit the small handful of people who are looking to buy such a car.
