At risk of appearing insensitive here (I am honestly not trying to kick a hornets nest), why is this necessary? As terrible a blow to his wife and children as this is, Wheldon earned more than $4 million dollars in prize money by winning the 500 in 95 and this year, over and above his retainers during that time. About the only thing they should not be short of is financial security.
As I understand it the drivers don't get to keep much of the winnings. Not sure what Dan's arrangement with the team was but he will probably not have seen anything like the $2.5m winners purse from this year's win. I agree though that he should have earned enough to have left the family reasonably comfortable. You never know though I guess.

Some nice stuff from Dario, Tony Kanaan and Bryan Herta at Dans memorial event, which was yesterday I think.

Just to emphasize how well loved Dan was in Indy - 3 out of 4 of the local tv affiliates cleared their schedules to show the memorial live in it's entirety yesterday. The only one that didn't had an NFL game

Interesting article on Pitpass. Can't say I agree with all of it - but it is food for thought -

Well I finally got around to watching the Sky Sports tribute show, I thought it was very well done in what was obviously a very hard time for all four of the guys.

I think I may of had something in my eye in the opening scenes.

R.I.P Dan.

Gone, but never forgotten.

I had the pleasure of racing against Dan some 20 odd years ago (back when we were about 13 and racing cadet go-karts at Rye House and Buckmore Park) back in the days when when he and Jenson used to bash wheels round the track as kids. Never could you meet a more open, honest, friendly and totally commited bloke, he loved what he did and had a steely passion way beyond his years, even back then.

Like too many before him, his death is a huge loss to us all - Thoughts and prayers are with his family at such a difficult time.
