So who do we recon to be a first time winner this year a few strong drivers this year without a win in the btcc.
Top one being priaux although not sure if he even won in the production cup back in 2001 but he hasn't won in the main class.
I'm confused. You mean Andy Priaulx who won outright at Knockhill in 2002 in the Honda Civic Type R? Unless I imagined him doing that with my own eyes as I was soaked that day...... Well that's a new one on me knew he had raced in the production cup but dint knew he raced with the Honda in the main group let alone winning a race but this was back when I didn't watch it I was 10 at the time.
He raced in Renault Spyders and dominated, then had a few years in British F3 before his cameo at Oulton Park in 2001 in the Egg Astra. Then signed for Honda for 2002 before starting his BMW career. He never raced production class or national saloons, must be somebody else you're thinking of?Anyway its good to have him back in the series will there be more winners this year than last year.
Plato/Turks/Smith/Neal/Shedden/Jordan/Goff/Tordoff/Collard/Priaulx all of them have the cars to win a race then you have Morgan/Moffet/Rob Austin/Ingram and if Motorbase come back in Jackson in with a shot then eurotech could under the right conditions win a race.
Im looking forward to the relationship between plato/turks and smith evolves and the battle between them as the season goes on all 3 are in with a chance.
Along with another year of full well almost full grids on the touring cars the other series look very healthy this year specially the juniors with a full grid, Porsche numbers are above 20 for a first time in a while with the msa formula/clios in the low 20s and supercup mid to high teens.
Great news to see the other series grow specially the Porsches too.

Nice work from Priaulx new team/car/spec of car and pole straight out. Bmr going well and did think smith would be ahead at the first qualiy session ahead of plato and turks.
Also good to see the infiniti not last for basically its first outing in competition still mighty disappointed with welchs proton still dead last.
Cant wait to see the first race tomorrow underway been a long winter.

0.001 between Plato and Turkington! Excellent stuff.
Really looking forward to tomorrow.
Ditto that!! Couldnt believe how close they were either!!!Really looking forward to tomorrow.
Has there ever been a team with 3 truly competitive drivers all in with a chance of being in the hunt at the end.
Also with Priaulx only doing 9rds if hes is up there come the rd he misses will he miss the race in favour of the sportcar programme.

Plato was heavy and he had a 4s lead so think it will effect some cars worse than others.
2 races 2 different winners and the 3rd looks likely to follow suit.
The only car with weight that dropped back severely was Collard to be fair, and he was also running the soft tyres. They seem to have made the big difference in the first 2 races so far.2 races 2 different winners and the 3rd looks likely to follow suit.
Plate would of won that with 3rd heaviest car if it wasn't for the puncture, smith got tagged so that cant be put in there. Soft tyre and heavy car doesn't seem to work.
This Porsche race is mental.

I hate to say it but my interest is waining for the BTCC.
I've watched it for 20 years without fail, but these new rules with weight just makes the false racing even worse. How can the winning car be penalised so heavily that it doesn't have a chance the next race? All the commentators do is talk about who's carrying what weight, where they are and how much slower they are in this race compared to the last.
The other thing is how can Plato and co run round without a sponsor? Is this now where the leading names can't attract a sponsor as the series is now little more than a club series and carries no weight (pardon the pun) with potential sponsors?
I don't wish to offend anyone but it just makes me sad that the series has now resorted to loading cars so heavily with weight to try and make racing interesting. It's false.
Its not that new just bit more weight due to the new cars handling the old weight better than the s2000 cars did. Collard was on the soft tyre to along with 75kg of weight. Plato was long gone with 3rd heaviest ballest so lets see how the rest of the series pans out. Theres only one team sponser less and that is bmr the rest carrier sponsers on them. sponsers come and go in the btcc always will and always have just like teams/drivers and manufactures.

This is what you get really. Don't have anything equalising the field and you get people moaning about drivers running away with it. The series puts things in place to mix things up and you get people complaining. The softs were poor on the BMW, Priaulx had the same problem in the first race. As for the title sponsors, seeing as mclaren can't even attract a title sponsor for their F1 cars, I would probably say the issues are down to the fact that we're still climbing out of a global recession rather than the series being a joke.
Surely in the 20 years you've been watching you've seen the series in a worse state???
