Cup News: NASCAR has decided to change the left side tire compund for a harder one. This means there will be an extra practice session after the NNS race tonight. They say its to improve the race, but I reckon its more likely they are concerned about speeds, we have seen up to 204mph in practice and even the NNS cars are over 190. There was also some talk about the tires blistering being a reason for the change, but it doesn't seem its a major issue.
This gives us a rather odd situation where they will qualify on the existing tires and then race on different tires.
Should be fun

Time to go road racing!
No trucks.
Nationwide are in Wisconsin at Road America.
Cup are over in Sonoma at what was known as Sears Point, later Infineon Raceway.
Nationwide race will be on motorstv at 9:30 Saturday. Good news is Eric McClure will be back this weekend after his rather nasty shunt at Talladega.
Cup green flag is 8:19pm our time Sunday. This will be the last race before rule changes in cup, which will apply on 27th June, for an overview read here: http://www.buildingspeed.org/blog/2012/06/rules-ch... - summary is the side skirts are being raised and there is a change to sway bars.

Kentucky this weekend. Fast tri oval.
Big news is that Andretti racing are to start a cup team to run one car in 2013. They've signed a deal for Penseke engines and are believed to be chasing Matt Kenseth to drive the car after he was released from Roush earlier this week. Looks like Petty Motorsports are also tied up in this deal.
Trucks are back, but they ran yesterday.
Nationwide race is tonight. Starts at around midnight. It'll be on motorstv tomorrow (Saturday) at 9pm.
Cup race starts about 12:45am Monday morning our time.

Dillon got 6 points docked, $10k fine for crew chief.
Okay, so back to Daytona. No trucks. This is a restrictor plate track.
Nationwide race is tonight at around midnight or so. Will be on Motors TV at 15:15pm Saturday according to their schedule : http://www.motorstv.com/tv-guide?d=2012-07-07&...
Cup Race is Saturday night, green flag scheduled for 12:50am Sunday morning our time.
Hamlin has a back problem so will not be running in Nationwide, Logano takes the #18 in his place and Bowyer will run the #20
Also watch for a familiar name: Jeffery Earnhardt is in the #15 for the Rick Ware team.
In Cup there has been a subtle mod to the rules - radiator caps can be 32psi now (up from 25psi for the 500 and 28psi at Talladega). This helps with cooling temperatures (basically means you can run hot for a little longer in the draft).
Michael McDowell is not running the weekend, Mike Bliss will drive the #98

Its quite expensive though, the week ticket (4 races) is $680. I reckon total cost will be near on £1500.
Anyways, been remarkably tardy posting this week..
They are in Loudon this weekend, only 8 races away from the start of the chase so everyone is trying to shape up, expecially those drivers out of contract at the end of the year.
Nationwide race starts in 90 minutes on motorsTV (8:30pm). Keselowski on pole.
Cup race is tomorrow, green flag is about 6:15pm our time.
Kyle Busch is on pole. Dinger still suspended, pending B sample results, Sam Hornish will drive the car again this week.

After a one week break for the cup boys we're back at Indy..
Cup Race due to start 6:19pm Sunday our time.
Nationwide is on MotorsTV at 10:30pm Saturday our time. Looks like this is on a slight delay as the race is due to start some 40mins before that.
The big news this week was Allmendinger failing his 2nd drug tests, he is now suspended indefinitely and has voluntarily entered the NASCAR road to recovery program. Turns out he tested positive for amphetamines. Hornish is in the car until further notice.

Pocono and Iowa this weekend,
Truck race is in Pocono, starts in about 20 minutes
Nationwide are in Iowa, starts tomorrow night at around midnight, but is on motorstv at 4pm Sunday
Cup are in Pocono, start is 6:20pm Sunday our time.
The inevitable statement came from Penske this week, after the failed drug tests Allmendinger has been released, seems Hornish will run the rest of the year.
Hotting up for the chase..

I saw the tweets about the death/injuries, what a horrible day. On the ESPN coverage they mentioned that they had removed their cameramen from the pitlane because they carry radio antennas to upload the images and due to the risk of lightning it wasn't safe to be out there, "bit of the top" I thought to myself - obviously not!
Did anyone catch Jnr parking in the empty garage and grabbing a jack and jacking his car up ?
Tough breaks for him and Hamlin but lucky for Burton. EGR need to get their act sorted out, JPMs pace was woeful again.

A quote on autosport that dinger was given an "energy pill" by a friend that just happened to contain amphetamines...
It was apparently adderall that is used to treat AHAD.In one way you could say it was unfortunate and that 'dinger isn't a druggie.
On the other hand it was pretty stupid of him to accept and take a pill without knowing what it was and even more dumb considering he knew drivers are regularly tested..
Dodge leaving has been rumoured since Penske switched to Ford.
Going to be interesting as silly season ramps up and we see drivers and teams do the get sponsorship/contracts signed dance.
