To be honest, I do agree with you. The reason things like Revival, Nurburg Oldtimers, Classic LeMans is so impressive is that these owners are so...well...cavalier I guess!! And I mean that in a good way.

Re the 250LM, no I'm sure it was Barrazzi's. I'm sure Monteverdi's is yellow with a green nose, the one that got totally smashed was all yellow (with Barrazzi sitting on the back of the low loader looking sheepish!)

Would something as rare as an original GT40 ever be written off? And I'm not looking at this purely from a point of view of rarity, but saying that where you have a rare car with a proven sporting pegigree, then you have a very large value. Hence, would something even as heavily damaged as this car ever cost more to repair than it's book value?

Oh, okay. I wasn't aware that Barazi's had been in a shunt.
Monteverde did wreck his pretty badly - it must have been on a different occasion! May have been GW Revival 3-4 years ago.
IIRC, in fact, the very next day he (or perhaps it was a co-driver) crashed another of his beautiful cars.

Didn't Damon Hill say something like (about Goodwood) "we're racing these cars that are worth a million quid, but you can only do about a couple of hundred grands worth of damage"

So long as the chassis plate has survived, they're never written off...

Montervede crashed his at Pau
Barazi stuffed his at Goodwood a couple of years ago ...
