If you want to be a pedantic little berk then here you go
Single venue at an airfield near Kettering, Events at Fulbeck are penned as I think are ones at Melbourne all events a pal of mine has gone to frequently over the years.
There is no stage rallying near me, so stop the crap and accept not everyone lives near stage rally areas.

So there is no stage rallying near you, so you personally don't actually know. Yet you persist in saying spectators aren't allowed/ encouraged at events despite people telling you different. It is that which annoys me. Especially with all the hard work we do to get spectators at venues. As I have said several times before most venues that don't allow spectators it is the landowner/agent that don't want them. In the case of Melbourne it has always been so. Nothing to do with recent changes.Single venue at an airfield near Kettering, Events at Fulbeck are penned as I think are ones at Melbourne all events a pal of mine has gone to frequently over the years.

All Have ever wanted you to do is be specific.
I am not being pedantic, a berk I may be.

some cracking pics there Ally. The mini ones don't help at all towards subsiding the itch to have one.
With regards to Speccy Pens on an event. All the ones I've done this year I've never forced anyone to stay in a pen despite being "Pen only events". But I guess it also comes down to the marshals and organisers around those pens having a bit of common sense too.
I get the feeling they've relaxed this slightly; I remember after the Wyedean 2015, and the photo on social media/ MNews of an idiot in a ditch, and the subsequent letter from the MSA - events were trying to keep control of spectators. With regards to Speccy Pens on an event. I attended the Pirelli, and I seem to remember the 'spectator viewing area' taped off, and a marshal standing at the end; then requesting/ asking for people to go no further. He actually said "I can't force you, but be in mind you could be the one to stop the stage - your choice"....
Something similar happened later that year at Crychan...."it's up to you, but the Safety delegate may take a dim view"
I'd say it's a bit different now, and of the 6/7 events I've been to this year, I've had no issues....but I suspect things may possibly change.
My personal experience is that certainly events at Fulbeck and the one near Kettering were OK with speccies and are not now.
I don't do 20 rallies a year, and I cannot be arsed to travel 200 miles to watch stage rallying as there is none near me at all. I did this year for RAC but bloody stage got cancelled due to lack of marshals, will never do it again.
So single venues at airfields or private land are my best bet
And most of those, it is made pretty obvious in regs, club websites that fans are not at all welcome.
Imagine if you were new, a new fan? What would you think if you read that.

Hopefully.
I have though about it, but standing in one place all day does not appeal to me
And besides which being a rally speccy over the years I have probably helped a few crews and marshals out myself so dont feel any need to put anything back as it were.
That, on a lot of events like this is a thing of the past.

Clearly the days of yore have gone. Where following the RAC you could watch the first 30 cars say, ie the 5 or so stars going really quickly, the next ones still getting a wiggle on but clearly not quite there, the next group obviously off the pace, then the next lot who were off the pace but trying really hard but right on their limit, lots of spills, then when you got to the pedestrian lot, relatively just driving round, then off to another stage leap frogging the rally. And so on for days and nights.
I also don't want to stand in the same place all day. Shrug.

Things have relaxed a bit since that infamous Wyedean picture, well on the majority of events. I attended the Pirelli, and I seem to remember the 'spectator viewing area' taped off, and a marshal standing at the end; then requesting/ asking for people to go no further. He actually said "I can't force you, but be in mind you could be the one to stop the stage - your choice"....

That's a bit of an unfair choice of words from the marshal, hes assuming everyone in that pen are the newbies that'll stand where they please and not giving everyone with a bit of brains the opportunity to get somewhere else. You do bear in mind tho the sheep ethos that once someone sees another person going then they think they can follow.
In all honesty if the safety delegate came through and had an issue they'd ask you to move first, refusal would likely lead to stage cancellations but not simply because one or two are in the wrong place.
I'd say your right on things maybe being about to change, if the attendance of Rally GB is even a quarter of that on national events with newbies coming out expecting the same sights then it could lead to stickier situations. We can only wait and see.

I started in Road Rallying by spectating on the oaks trophy many moons ago. Though, ooh this is ace. Perhaps I will marshal.
Then I thought ooh it still seems fun, gave driving a go, did ok, ran out of money, took up navigating 😂
Now i’m CofC on a road rally and i’ll happily give people spectator spots if they want to watch. Today speccys are tomorrow’s competitors.
So Citroen confirm Meeke and Breen next year, with the latter being replaced by Loeb for 3 events, and Al-qassimi doing an unspecified amount of events i a 3rd car. No hope of the manufacturers title for them then, I really wouln't be surprised if Citroen pull out at the end of 2018, it's seemed such a half arsed effort for the last year or so.
While Craig and Scott have been thankful for a seat next year, they havn't exactly hidden their disappointment in missing those events! You wonder how much extra it would really cost a supposed works team ,to run Loeb as the 3rd car?
