Whats Happened to the BTCC ???

Just to add to this BTCC lap times around Brands Indy look very healthy bearing in mind that the circuit layout changed a couple of years ago which added approximately 2 seconds to a lap time.
Sorry to disagree, but other than being resurfaced back in (I think) winter 2009/10, Brands Indy hasn't changed for twenty years or more. The long track was 'realigned' through dingle dell about five years ago - perhaps this is what you're getting confused with?Kim

Not quite correct. Graham Hill bend was realigned/extended about 8 or 9 years ago.Kim

which got me thinking that BTCC must have the widest general following, beyond motorsport followers, that it has ever had, for a company such as KX and TESCO to brand their packaging with BTCC related stuff. I have never seen BTCC driver or series branded stuff on any shelves before outside of motorsport specific stores and was wondering if this was the case or if anyone had seen anything such as this before

Tesco and KX are one company, KX is just a rebranding of their own brand Kick crap they've been punting since the early 2000s.http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/motorsp...

Tesco have used sponsoring Platoad for years to promote their Momentum super unleaded, it makes sense, big TV audience and sponsorship to get on it costs less than a few minutes prime time advertising.
They've seen the success of RedBull's motorsport advertising, they've seen the success of Ken Monster Energy Block and they are trying to duplicate it in typical Tesco style [cheaper but missing the point].
I dont see this as a BTCC triumph at all, its just well done to Plato on getting them behind him. Of the people that do recognise the person on the advertising materials, the vast majority will probably recognise him as the geezer off 5th Gear, realitively few will relate it to the BTCC imho.

It is so boring to listen to you, boring old sods going on about the "old days".
You will have nothing to complain about when motor racing is regulated and legislated out. Or when they all run silent electric motors. You'll be dead by then to care. Ooh, they are all 4-pots. Ooh, they are all turbos. What is this, some sort of weird willy waving contest? Bloody hell. Go and support them whilst you still can.
I took a mate who's a very casual F1 fan (never been to any race before), to Brands on Saturday.
As we got to the circuit, Practise session for the BTCC was going on. And you know what, every time the BMWs came past us, he was giggling like a girl hearing the loud bangs during the gear changes. He still hadn't got used to the sound late in the evening. He was still giggling at the end. He had the biggest smile on his face I had seen in ages. I had a huge smile too, listening/seeing the BTCC cars and the others.
You can sit at home complaining, it just means more of us get to watch it live at a much lesser cost. Unlike the scrum to get to/watch an F1 race live. I have booked race day tickets for the Thruxton round and shall be going to WEC @ Silverstone too.
At the end of the day, did I feel I got my money's worth. You bet I did.
Was he really your friend or are you his care worker ? 90% or racing cars sound nice 10% sound even better. You will have nothing to complain about when motor racing is regulated and legislated out. Nothing wrong with people remembering the old days. For me its all about good racing i dont care if it was in 1960 or 2013. Perhaps you should watch some older stuff you might enjoy

Reading comprehension fail? We're all sane and healthy, thanks and no I'm not his "care worker". Nothing wrong with people remembering the old days. For me its all about good racing i dont care if it was in 1960 or 2013. Perhaps you should watch some older stuff you might enjoy
It is one thing to remember the "old days", it is another to go off on an unsubstantiated tirade about how crap everything is at the moment. If it's all about the racing, why do people go on about other extraneous stuff like wheel size, power to weight, number of cylinders yada yada etc?
Also, being able to appreciate racing at 2013, does not imply I'm incapable of appreciating the racing in "the old days". Love the classic stuff and the modern stuff.

TBH i dont know probably people talking about the series when the liked it the most. I couldnt care less if the cars had 6l engines on 10'' wheels as long as they looked pretty nice and racing was good. TC has had better days but seems to be on the up again all the series seem to have highs and lows over the years.
I just wish they wouldnt shove each other off all the time

Yeah, I'm sure I saw Frank Sytner endorsed Timotei back in the late 80's.Gassing Station | General Motorsport | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
