Just seen on the beeb that the switch to 2012 tyres is on and that "teams will be able to test at the young drivers days"

Does this mean that the FIA have hit Merc with a unintended sanction?

good question....

in light of what the sanction was over, I would have though they should cast aside that anyway, after all, it's pretty apparent that said test was being done for the right reasons.

From Sniff Petrol

That Pirelli statement in full
Posted in Motorsport, News by Sniff Petrol on Wednesday, July 3rd, 2013
A series of different causes led to the tyre failures at Silverstone:

- We didn’t know the cars would be driving that fast.
- Uneven wear caused by too much turning right.
- The teams repeatedly put new wheels onto the cars too quickly.
- Excessive braking, accelerating and swerving about.
- Extremely sharp leaves on track.
- Failure to proceed to approved Pirelli stockist upon kerbing tyres
- We were asked to make st tyres. Stop fking complaining when the tyres are indeed st.

Oh God, I’m so sorry. Forget all that, forget I spoke. It’s not you, it’s me.

You have a good point and one that MGP are aware of from what I have heard. They were banned from the YDT not Ny tyre test using regular drivers so they should at least get to partake in that.

I saw that Mercedes have voluntarily chosen not to partake in the test which indicates that they were potentially able do the tyre test even if not the young driver test. It certainly seems from the race on Sunday that the issues Mercedes had with tyres earlier in the season were not solved in the test they had so it does seem unfair. All the teams will gain the advantage of a test with the current car and drivers on new tyres whilst Mercedes will not, and the indications are that they get information about what they are testing which Mercedes did not at their test. I guess they decided the disadvantage was more acceptable than hearing Christian Horner whinging further about how it is always unfair if his car (especially the one driven by Vettel) gets beaten.

personally, if the FIA had any credibility, they would have already cast that judgement aside....

fat chance of that happening though...

IMO it's karma in action.
Try to get an unfair advantage, end up with unfair disadvantage. Then casually laugh when Hamilton has a whinge about it. Again.
