Both Vettel and Alonso have shortened in some lists. On-line "makers of books" do not see either Mercedes-Benz better than 4th or 5th. I do hope they are wrong. I suspect they may be for this race. Will Mercedes~Benz put a stop to all that going backwards Mullarkey in the race ? Stand by...
Vettel is good odds to lead on Lap 5 and lap 10. So if Mercs run true to previous form ....
That paid off handsomely for me last race.

First of all. I do not gamble. I pit my wits against the various bookies' odds compilers who do not always get it right.... in my opinion.
Second of all, my carefully considered investments against those who compile the odds have never been anonymous.
Third of all, those who get into difficulty by gambling mainly do so when betting on pure chance forms of gambling such as fixed odds machines or one armed bandits, rather than say using their interest, knowledge and experience of Motor or Horse race reading.
Formula 1: At the last race, prior to qualifying, currently the best car/driver combination so far this year in my opinion has been Alonso/Ferrari. He was available then @ 9-4. I thought that was a good price and had a few quid on him. This was my opinion despite trailing the very capable Vettel/Red Bull in the points table. Race form and incidents created a false impression.... again in my opinion. After qualifying with Alonso surprisingly back in the third row, bookies lengthened his odds to 4-1 and soon after 7-2 so I had further bets at both those prices before his odds were reduced further, which soon happened as others felt as I did about his chances. Those 'investments' still based on my judgement about race pace rather than single lap times which again, sometimes create a false impression. Consider the single lap and race pace of the two Mercedes-Benz drivers.
There again, instead of betting on Alonso for the win, I could have put all those stakes on the spin of the Roulette wheel. However, that would be gambling and I do not gamble. Those are very big differences. Can you spot them or is your mojo malfunctioning ...

Now again using my experience, the next F1 event at Monaco is NOT a race to easily forecast the winner prior to Qualifying. Even then, an 'investment' for numerous reasons is less attractive because of the nature of the track. Thus I may not have a bet at all. To have a bet at Monaco .... now that would be gambling ... in my opinion, particularly if they Red Flag the race and allow all the drivers to change tyres on the track! as has been know to happen.... it's in the rules apparently ..

My first ever serious bet was on a Horse called Mill House. That was over fifty years ago now.Mill House was the English Champion and I 'invested' a whole 10/= ( Ten Shillings ) on the horse at slight odds-on. Quite a tidy sum in the early 1960s. Enough to fill the tank in my car and motor cycle. An older and wiser judge than I suggested I was unwise to disregard another horse in the race. A bit of an unknown quantity from across the Irish Sea. Yeah, right, what does that old git know ... Mill House is the Champ ..
I placed my 10/= on Mill house who was soundly beaten after looking good for most of the race..... by that other Horse ... The name of that other Horse ? The mighty ARKLE who went on to become the greatest steeplechaser in the long history of National Hunt racing. I lost my 10/= but it was still money well invested because it taught me a hard lesson ... assume nothing and consider all the possibilities. Every one of them and only then decide to bet, or, more importantly, not to bet! That lesson was well learned and has stood me in good stead ever since.
