An appeal of behalf of me please.....

I have been offered a job working at Silverstone for the duration of the GP weekend - starting on the Thursday & finishing on the Sunday night.

Which is good for me - apart from the fact that I need to stay 'on site' or within walking distance due to the long hours & early start/late finish.

Being a GP veteran I know the futility of trying to find somewhere to stay at such short notice - on the off chance I made over 20 calls tHis morning without any luck although one kind sole did say she had a room available for the GP in 2016!!!!.

She wasn't joking as says she is fully booked for the next 2 years!

I have also spoken to Silverstone who say that their campsites are full & they wouldn't be able to assist even if I owned a tent. Which I don't!

So what I need to know is this - does any PH'r who is going to the GP have a spare bunk in a motorhome or caravan that I can acquire for the weekend.

Cannot offer much money as only getting paid £6.70 an hour although I don't expect to bunk up for free.

It's cheeky I know however if anyone can assist I would be extremely grateful.

Thank you.

You have no chance. Who is your employee and what do they advise?

It's a large catering organisation.

They suggested that I commute everyday.

From Gloucester.......... As if I'm going to do that! Down the A43 every day over GP weekend......

Thought I'd ask. Just in case.

Silverstone campsite may be full but there are others- such as the Dadford Rd one or next door at the golf club-both ont tinternet I think- cheap tent from tescos or similar, leave it on site if you want- or sleep in the car. Can't think of any other way at this stage.
Hope you get it sorted

Staying within walking distance isnt going to be easy.....staying within cycling distance is certainly possible. 6 or so miles isnt bad and you may well find accommodation not a million miles away. Got a bike?

Can't you sleep behind the catering van? seems to be what happens at music festivals.

If not dadford road should have room.

I always see tents erected behind the catering vans at the GP.

Thank you for the campsite details etc - I will make some calls this morning.

Already asked if I can pitch a tent behind a marquee, tent or concession outlet & received a very firm reply of 'no' as Silverstone management will not allow it.

Asked if was able to sleep in the car in a car park - was told, again, no.

Hopefully one of the camp sites will be able to help.

I though it was normal for staff to sleep in the panel vans.

Pretty sure you can just turn at dadford road site and get a space, facilities are very basic though.

Try a campsite further out from the circuit.

Billing Aquadrome springs to mind, or Cosgrove off the top of my head.

Both will be within 30 mins or so from the circuit (in normal traffic) but be prepared for an early start on race day.

I live in MK and the hotels even here (30-40 mins out) are all rammed for GP weekend.

Our group camp at Whittlebury campsite, no need to book or call in advance, just rock up, pay the farmer on the gate for the number of nights and he gives you a colour coded sticker for the windscreen and off you go. Facilities are a bit basic, we camp in the 2nd field back from the main entrance and have never had an issue. It is only a few minutes walk from the entrance behind the old start/finish straight where a lot of the catering vans and merchandise stalls are situated.

You could get a tent, I have kipped in my at a few times and it was fine. Let me know if you want more info.
