Morning all. My son is desperate to see the BTCC for his birthday so I'm thinking of taking him to the Saturday Qualifying at Silverstone later this year. He's only six so Race Day is not really on, I know he'd be flagging by lunch time hence the decision to go on the Saturday. Quick question though, is there any pit lane and garage access at all, even if it's just a quick look see or is that sort of thing not done? He's a massive fan (well we both are!) so if we can have a quick wander around and take a few pictures he's be over the moon. If Silverstone isn't the best venue we could always do Brands Hatch, so any advice gratefully received smile

Definitely Silverstone if you want Paddock access. There are plenty of ways into the paddock at Silverstone (and no-one really seems to care) whereas the Brands Inner Paddock where the BTCC teams are is effectively a well guarded island, with only the Outer Paddock being accessible.

So difficult in fact that I'm a driver and I struggled to get in if I went over to visit guests in a box and forgot to bring my pass!

Definitely the best place for you to go with him. A Saturday is always quieter. My friend has taken his 4 year old to Brands and Thruxton on the Saturday this year and he loved it. Plenty of access to drivers and cars, but not the chaos you find on a Sunday.

Quite often at BTCC meets they do a Pit lane walk during the lunch break, they certainly do at Donington. If you do manage to get pit passes your son will not be allowed in the pit lane as no under 16 are allowed.
