Can anyone categorically say whether this is , or isn't Sennas F.Ford? If it is then I would guess it's worth a few bob!

doesn't sound right to me, and that chassis plate could have come from anywhere, but theres a guy I know who may have the chassis number that Senna raced and I may see him today so I will ask.

If you had genuinely got Senna's Formula Ford (including incontravertible evidence), surely you would auction it via a specialist motor sport firm rather than ebay?

What makes you say that, just out of interest?

If you can get it for little more than the cost of a comparable FF, then it's a lottery ticket, but I agree that if the provenance could be proven, he'd be selling it via Coys or similar rather than on ebay.

I have Damon Hill's 1984 Van Diemen and wouldn't dream of selling it anywhere other than a specialist motorsport auction/dealer.

Well the chassis plate doesn't seem to be attached to the car so it could be the chassis plate for Senna's car. But not the car itself.

"CAR IS DEFIANTLY SENNAS CAR" - sums it up really ..

He's sold 6 FFs on ebay "aloan" but hasn't learnt to spell Van Diemen as yet ??

If it were, I don't think you would break it.

I also think you would have got the information together to prove that it is what it is claimed to be.

Finally, I'm fairly certain that the retirement fund you would therefore be sitting on would be something you would have put in to the hands of professionals to secure the best price possible.

On the flip side, we may be looking at a fantastic piece of motorsport history. If that's the case I'm looking forward to seeing the documented evidence and then will watch with interest to see what massive number it ends up being sold for.

The car was up for sale on a racing website for £26k (complete).

The last winning bidder didn't respond to the sellers contact so it's up again.

I suppose it might be Sennas FF. Presumably it's impossible to prove it otherwise he wouldn't break it up and sell it for peanuts on eBay.

Is it balls.

I'd love to be wrong but why on gods green earth would you sell something that has that kind of history on ebay? more importantly, why would you take it apart??

What you do, is you email heritage@vandiemen.co.uk or use whatever domain suffix that they are using this week and ask nicely for a chap called Derek to look up the original sales receipts and any other information he has about the chassis.

He is one of the chaps who built all the cars in the first place. that should tell you all you need to know. It's interesting talking to him how many people have got in contact with him because they have bought "Jan Magnussen's RF92"

I use to own a VD RF84 FF1600 that was supposed to be Damon Hills car, I wonder if it is the same car?

So I e-mailed the seller asking for evidence of the claimed history and significance of the car. This is what I got back (apologies for the syntax, this is a copy and paste):

seller said:
hi there
i can provide you with provenance but if i have to do that kind of leg work i would want 50k plus off you do we have a contract? i think you need to go back and read my ad it explains 2 reasons to why i haven't bothered the first one is i am not going to put my time into something that i all ready know and the second is more important than the first 2 in July i have a lot of land coming up to cabinet by my local council so i do not have time to do that with July being such a short time away, what im going to say to you is this i am all most sure that you and most people did not know that senna raced this rf80 car but i did and i am a specialist, what i am saying is i could go and get the provenance and i also could finish the car off to a very high standard and you would still want it for the price of a normal rf80 van dieman, if this was not so you would not of sent me that email asking for the provenance in the first place. you are sounding like if i was to get you the provenance you would still expect it for the same price as it is, you prove to me that it isn't sennas car and tell me where it is i am that confidant that you will come back with nothing like many other if you do i will give you 50k and the car! and im a man of my word how about that do we have a deal?

So, if one of you can find out where Senna's car actually is, and provide the evidence, this guy will give you his car and 50k......

What a bizarre reply to a seemingly sensible & plausible question.

I thought so, too.

I've already e-mailed Derek..........
