Tragic to lose such a great driver and character, but at least he died doing what he loved.

Dear God not another rally driver. That's dreadful news, it's been a bad year or two.

Very sad news.
Always liked watching Bathurst and the Oz V8's going hell for leather around some fantastic circuits. Didn't realise he had turned his hand to rallying, or was it just a one off.

RIP Brockie

Brock was actually a touring car driver. After his retirement, he made a hobby of competing in road-rallies and novelty events.

I heard about his death while at work, and we were all shocked. There is at least one active racing driver and a few former drivers in our company, and we also sponsor a team in the V8 Supercars championship, so it was big news for us.

What a terrible week for Australia... two prominent figures dead, both legends in our time.

Sad News indeed!

Just had a look on those links and saw the news reel of the crash... it looks like a road rally, he was driving what looks like a Superperformance cobra (i think that's what they're called the remake of the racing hardtop cobra.

Freak accident in a usually safe and well controlled road based motorsport.

Very sad down this end of the planet.

R.I.P. Peter

The Targa's are all tarmac. I understand it was the same Daytona Cobra he was going to bring across the ditch for the Targa NZ next month.

He was more than just "a rally driver", a 10 time winner at Bathurst earned him the nickname of "King of the Mountain" he retired from full time competition in the V8's in 1997, only to return to Bathurst for the 24 Hour races.
