Now Volkswagen are looking to leave the WRC.
Funny as they have been testing a 2017 spec car over the last few Months.

[quote=Francy555]Must go to the bookies to put the mortgage on Kris Meeke being 2017 World rally Champion!!
Ogier will be in the WRC next year.
The temptation to drive the new 2017 car will be too much for him to ignore IMO.
Saying that he has been very much against the running orders for the Championship leader during the year so he might just pack it in.
When Citroen left Loeb ran a Citroen without the works team behind him but VW will not entertain private teams so this will be out of the question.
I would be very concerned being a factory team driver after the news of Volkswagen quitting.
Ogier, Latvala and Mikkelsen are all now free agents at the end of the year so do not be surprised to see some contracts ripped up to have these drivers included.
Whatever happened in the past with Ogier and Citroen do not be surprised if they do get back together.
I am sure no one would every have thought Alonso and McLaren would have worked again.
Money talks

Skoda could just stick a new body on the Polo
Wonder if the drivers had any clue this was about to happen or not.
If the staff were being told perhaps the drivers too were in the dark.
Ogier has very close ties to Malcolm Wilson who tried to sign him before Volkswagen deal was struck.
At least the off season will be interesting.
Blow to the WRC. Yes two new teams but Volkswagen did a lot for the sport besides competing.

Ahhhh, how you jest
Ogier doesn't really have close to ties to Malcolm Wilson at all. He has far stronger ties with Peugeot/Citroen, he was there with Loeb for 3 seasons. Would Citroen make room for him? It wouldn't be much fun for Meeke. The new C3 is bound to be competitive from the off. Meeke has beaten Ogier in rallies this season, should they end up in the same team and he beat Ogier to the championship it would be all the more sweeter. Who knows.
Even better if VW hadn't pulled out and we could've seen the drivers battle it out in the new Pole and C3.

At the same time, there's a huge mutual admiration between Malcolm Wilson and Ogier. The pair talked about a possible deal towards the end of 2011 and relations have always remained very warm ever since.
Obviously this means nothing as I am sure if Ogier stays he will want a works team.
Another huge issue is the amount the forestry commission charge to have a forest used by a rally event.
This is why the same stages are being used time and time again during events to cut the costs.
Even if the FIA wanted to hold a old style RAC Rally it would not be possible with the charges now.
Unfortunately there are more and more reasons why rallying is having a hard time.
I would not be surprised to see no Rally Wales in the future.
