Renault Denies F1 Withdrawal Rumours

Renault F1 boss says 'the 2010 season has already started'

A Renault board meeting in Paris - the day after Toyota pulled the plug on its F1 dream - has set the internet buzzing with rumours that the French team may follow suit.

Will they stay, or will they go..?
Will they stay, or will they go..?
In spite of the rumours that Renault has been considering its position, Jean Francois Caubet - managing director of Renault F1 - has told French journal L'Equipe that the 2010 season is not in doubt.

"We have already contracted our drivers, had our budget approved and are enrolled in the World Championship," he told the daily. "Season 2010 has begun already."

According to Caubet, Renault's chief exec Carlos Ghosn is fully behind Renault's 2010 F1 campaign, but has (unsurprisingly!) demanded the team returns to more competitive form.

Notwithstanding Caubet's comments, in these febrile times for the motor industry and motorsport, it's always possible that plans for an F1 withdrawal are on the Renault boardroom table.

It doesn't seem that long ago that Toyota F1 team boss John Howett was reaffirming Toyota's commitment to the sport...

Good, get rid of em, every scandal for the past two years has included Renault F1. Good riddens.

Mercedes arent a mainstream car maker?

And do you really think its going to look good for La Reggie if they keep getting buttfked by a bunch of small indies which the media portrays as having less money to burn than a London tramp? Not to mention a CEO who thinks it is all a waste of money.

Its a shame when teams do pull out, I will miss Toyota, as for Renault staying or going, that isnt the real issue for me, its will the team actually bring anything to the sport more than scandal and trash?

I find it interesting that the relatively minor teams that are privately owned (Williams, McLaren-OK part M-B I know, Force India, Brawn- of course) are still managing to hang in there against the might of the mainstream road car manufacturers who are or have already exited F1. e.g. Honda, BMW, Toyota (& Jaguar/Ford a while back)

Good for these "independents" I say as at one time it felt like the major manufacturers were both going to swamp the grid but at the same time potentially save F1 from disappearing. Now look what's happened.

They just need to sort out that lot who conjure up the rules to make it as exciting to watch as fans would really like.

Alonso certainly didn't seem to give a flying fk for most of the season.

It seems to me that these decisions are taken about a year before they actually hit.

Big corporations do not make snap decisions like this.

IMO Toyota will have known for months that this is the end and won't have been really investing on the 2010 season. Therefore what looks like a shock decision is really just the formal announcement of a decision taken months previously.

The article states that Renault are in. I suppose only a handful of people really know the truth. It would be a shame if they were to pull the plug even after all the scandels. After all, Mclaren dusted themselves off.

The difference is that for the manufacturers, F1 is a marketing activity, while for the privateers it's all about the racing.

slightly off topic... where is that picture from? Looks like a game not a real photo, which is a bit weird

I know this is the internet and good spelling isn't essential, but holy christ, it's 'good riddance'.

Also no, the McLaren scandal's of the past two years were nothing to do with Renault.

You fail.
The spygate scandal did involve Renault, apparently they had Ferrari data in their possesion just like Mclaren. Admittedly liegate had nothing to do with Renault.

Personally I think Alonso is more the linking factor to scandal than Renault to be honest but he has got off scot free both times!

Bloomberg saying Ghosn says expect a F1 announcement in coming weeks, also says that Ghosn won't say whether Renault F1 commitment to 2012 stands.

Indeed it is but long live the privateers anyway.

p.s. & roll on the reintroduction of the Lotus name too !

I don't think they will take their engines anywhere.

I think you mean stop making them.

Sorry, wrong turn of phrase. That is what I meant. When the team stops, so do the engines.
