Video: BMW Celebrates 10 Years in F1

It's 'thanks for the memories, Munich' as BMW bows out

As BMW Power gently closes the door on another chapter in its rich Formula 1 history, now the 2009 season has drawn to its end they leave us with only this video memoir of their last 10 years in the sport.

Its hard to believe a decade has passed since BMW's return to F1 for the 2000 season, 17 years after Nelson Piquet drove a BMW-powered Brabham to world championship victory in 1983. The well-edited video certainly doesn't lay off on the melodrama - but signs off with the words: 'see you on tracks around the world'.

So put down the Kleenex, you big jessies, they'll be back! (Someday, somewhere...)

Sadly: "Second place in rainy Malaysia" sums up BMW's F1 success.

At least they saw one of their drivers crowned as World Champion. Just a shame he wasn't in the team when it happened wink

The very last shot looks distinctly like an M3 in GT4 trim. What price BMW entering GT racing?

"See you on tracks around the world..........."

Probably referring to the swarm of E36 M3's that turn up to every track day nowadays.

It's a shame to see any team leave the grid, never mind how good or bad they were.

Very true. It's just as well there will be a couple more additions next season.

They already do. They've been racing in GT2 in the American Le Mans Series for a while now.

BMWs rich history in F1? Eh? Come on again? They have been about as successful as a one legged horse! Can you imagine the laughter rolling out of the Merc boardroom at such a notion?

Well, yeah, I suppose those three World Touring Car Championships and a European Touring Car Championship the year before that just a couple of years ago, don't really count for much... rolleyes

They'll concentrate on GT2 in ALMS and Le Mans now, perhaps even have a cut at an LMP again, it'll certainly be a damn sight cheaper than being in F1, whatever they choose to do. And more aligned to their product range.

Likewise Vettel and Webber have done pretty well for themselves since leaving BMW, I guess that bodes well for Kubica, though I suspect Heidfeld has a fate more in common with Ralf Schumacher and Montoya.

Sorry missed out on that one> must have been away, anyways still prefer to spend my money on other things than a BMW, theres a bit of a stigma attached to the Brand I just dont like.

After screwing Williams, I've enjoyed the races this year when Williams has beaten them - shame they didn't quite beat them in the Team Championship.
