Viper Record spawns special Edition
Viper ACR Laguna Seca record run will be celebrated by special edition '1.33' road car
The social media revolution has clearly taken hold at Chrysler, as the company is now announcing new models via Twitter.
Following on from the 2010 Dodge Viper ACR (pictured, right) setting a new lap record at California's Laguna Seca circuit yesterday (24 November), Chrysler has announced a new special edition to celebrate the car's record run.
"To honor Viper's record-breaking lap at Laguna Seca," tweets Chrysler, "Dodge will rollout (sic) a Laguna Seca Special Edition Viper."
The new car will be introduced along with the MY 2010 Viper and will be called the '1.33' Edition, in honour of the 2010 ACR's lap time of 1m 33.915s.
The previous record was set by the new Devon GTX supercar at 1m 35.075s.

Looks a bit heavy in the corners IMO

Is it just me or does that look relatively pedestrian in comparison to some of the machinery fighting it our for the 'Ring' record etc?
Are they SURE that this is the fastest thing round Laguna!?
Sounds fantastic, and it one of those cars that I'd love to have the money to own and run - But this seemed a little 'unimpressive' somehow.

Well by a way of comparison here is what a superkart is capable of around Laguna... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O2o--m0wsu0
I imagine a Radical will be of a similar pace, maybe a bit slower if on road tyres.

'1.34' edition would be a little more accurate. It's that kind of overpromising and under-delivering that explains the state of US manufacturers (tongue firmly in cheek)
Indeed... 1m 33.915s is NOT 1.33 no matter how optimistic your rounding isGreat gives me a new Target to hit, as this will be the first circuit I intend to set some times at in my new car.. Not with me driving either as I'm not that good, but I know a Man that can "Some say he built the first V12 Ultima, and he lives not far from me" all I know is he's allot better driver than me.....
Mind you with the same horse power and half the weight It can't be that hard can it....

loonies !! I imagine a Radical will be of a similar pace, maybe a bit slower if on road tyres.
7.22 around the ring is faster than just about every road legal factory produced car going, the spec:
New for the 2010 model year is a shorter fifth gear ratio (changing from 0.74 to 0.80) for improved high-speed acceleration and higher straightaway speeds. This improvement is a direct result of SRT’s experience at the 12.9-mile Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit in Germany where during the lap-record run in 2008, it was found that a revised gear ratio would have resulted in a higher speed capability and potentially a shorter elapsed time.
The Dodge Viper ACR also receives a new short-throw shifter in 2010 for enhanced driver experience and better performance. The rear wing profile and end plates are redesigned to further optimize the vehicle aerodynamics and improve rear yaw downforce.
Powered by the venerable 8.4-liter, V-10 engine with 600 horsepower and 560 lb.-ft. of torque, the Dodge Viper ACR continues to offer extreme performance, including 0-60 mph acceleration in less than 4 seconds, quarter-mile time in the mid 11-second range and 0-100-0 mph in 11 seconds flat.
The Dodge Viper ACR with optional Hard Core Package is more than 80 lbs. lighter than the production SRT10 and offers race-ready hardware and competition tuning for optimal on-track performance.
The four-wheel independent suspension features high-performance aluminum control arms and knuckles, KW suspension with two-way adjustable competition coil-over shock absorbers with remote reservoirs.
The aerodynamic package features a carbon fiber “fanged” splitter in front and adjustable carbon-fiber wing with seven-position stanchions that allow up to an amazing 1,000 lbs. of downforce at 150 mph. Lightweight wheels, two-piece slotted StopTech brake rotors and Michelin PS Cup tires round out the Dodge Viper ACR package.
The 2010 Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR will make its worldwide auto show debut on Dec. 2, 2009 at the Los Angeles Auto Show

Funny to compare how much harder the driver is having to work in the Viper as against the Nissan GTR laps that have been posted recently.

Good effort but lucky that the computer handled the rev limiter or there would have been frequent showers of pistons. He was leaning on that quite hard at times. Love the missed 3rd gear too, I do that oh so often when in a hurry, but I have an excuse as everyone knows Vette manual gearboxes are crap.
.
the viper box is, uh, a bit agricultural to say the least. im certain bouncing off the limiter for a couple of seconds is faster than changing up and down again. there's no denying the effectiveness of the car though! ain't no substitute for cubic inches. .
