BMW took its first race win in the DTM for two decades, when Canadian Bruno Spengler won at the Lausitzring over the weekend.
BMW takes first win of its DTM comeback
It's been a long time since BMW tasted the champagne in DTM - the last race of 1992 - but the boys and girls from Munich are back
BMW's DTM comeback has already brought a spark of excitement back to touring cars - sufficient for us to make the pilgrimage to Hockenheim the other week to witness the reappearance of BMW at first hand. Now, in only the second round of the series, it's staked a firm claim to be right at the sharp end of the grid.
Spengler bagged pole on Saturday, with Brazilian Augusto Farfus making it a front-row lock-out for BMW. And if that makes it sound like it was a dull lights-to-flag parade for Spengler and his BMW, the fact that Brit Gary Paffett finished just a single second behind in his Mercedes - after 52 laps - rather suggests otherwise...
So that's one win to Mercedes, one win to BMW. Does that mean it's Audi's turn when DTM hits Brands Hatch Indy on 20th May?

Something to do with the look of the cars, the speed, money, quality of drivers etc, etc.
Most people who want to see BTCC already know it's on - hence the lively debate during each race over who is the dirtiest driver out there.
So are you saying the BTCC and MG isn't worthy of mention in the PH news section? Perhaps there are PHers who don't really follow BTCC (yet) and may be inspired to with a little snippet of news about it. Using your logic there needs be no report on the DTM on here as those who follow it will already know that news. It seems to me that PH journos are in denial of the BTCC and MG. I would say that MG taking a rehashed Rover or a brand new Chinese car (,however you want to see it)and taking on and beating the established teams is more of an accomplishment than BMW's.Most people who want to see BTCC already know it's on - hence the lively debate during each race over who is the dirtiest driver out there.

Personally I think that it is great to be seeing something on the news that isn’t F1 or BTCC centric.
I can get F1 news many places, I have the BTCC thrown down my throat morning noon and night when trying to find some motorsport to watch.
I am glad that PH is publishing plenty about the DTM this year, a proper domestic touring car championship with real focused manufacture support and some of the best drivers in the World, BTCC in comparison looks like a bunch of repmobiles that have been driven through Halfords (collect almost any engine you like along the way) and has a depth of talent roughly equal to a Stock Hatch race. This is slightly unfair to Stock Hatchers though as they seem to be able to overtake without having to punt the other car off the track first.
Don’t get me wrong I do enjoy watching the odd BTCC race here and there but it just isn’t in the same league as the DTM and sure as hell I would rather see the promotion of F3 or British GT well before another sentence is wasted on the BTCC.

The DTM has the best cars, drivers, tracks, sponsors, organisation – virtually everything, except endless overtaking, which people use to beat it. That is what the BTCC is for – motorsport entertainment. It’s like comparing the Premiership with Championship/1st Division football.

Well put Rude Boy its a bit like comparing the clown and the trapeze artist at a circus, they both entertain but on such different levels. I'd much rather watch mastery at work than the likes of a clown like Plato punting Sheddon all the way down a straight then saying he braked early!!I can get F1 news many places, I have the BTCC thrown down my throat morning noon and night when trying to find some motorsport to watch.

Agree 100% about Plato being a complete bell end in that race, also recall him cutting a few corner too. Both BTCC and DTM are great motorsports competitions I suppose its a case of each to there own and all that. Gassing Station | General Motorsport | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
