A shame it won't be open for Goodwood. It would make the journey easier (for those going my way) and I'd imagine some nice sounds through it too.

A3 tunnel run ;-) Om nom nom nom. As far as I know the cameras don't monitor average RPM! hehe

The Tunnel is still due to open on July 6th 2011.

The normal operating speed limit will be 70mph. Any problems in the tunnel or the contraflow is in place it will go down to 40mph.

The cameras are home office approved to measure both speeds.
So it'll be a 70 limit through it? That's not so bad then really.
I'm thinking not.....absolutely no chance forever. One minor accident and 50mph very max is my guess wink

Exactly! Ideally they'll put a 50mph limit on the tunnel. That way, I'm far less likely to have someone taking me up the arse when I go through running it up through first & second then stopping and repeating! hehe

In what way are cameras going to reduce accidents? Statistical evidence that they do?

Please don't be jumping on the idiot "Speed Kills" bandwagon, otherwise one could easily get the impression that you're an idiot incapable of independant thought. biggrin
Agree with that. Speed cameras are just revenue generators, nothing else.

Does anyone understand the lane markings? I probably ought to know this but are you allowed to change lanes in there? It looks like a solid white line but it isn't - it's broken and not just for catseyes - and apparently it's some kind of hazard marking.

Edit: oh, as in 'the longer the line/shorter the spacing, the bigger the hazard'. Guess I won't get done for that then biggrin

You are correct they are just hazard lines and you can change lanes. In normal running conditions every other cats eye is lit, when it is in contraflow every cats eye will be lit.

I'm hearing that there is also a fixed camera in the tunnel, so if you are very slow to start with and then had a little blast you could get done for speeding even if your average is still no more than 70?

Is this true?

Cheers

Probably a load of rubbish. I've never heard of two types of camera enforcing the same part of the road. However I'm happy to be corrected.
