Steve did you ever find out any more about THE cottage coming up for sale?
We are up last week of May smile (in the evoque frown ) would be good to meet up and talk Highland houses!
It never appeared on their website, just in a magazine. I think they took it off the market. Rumour is there is some sore of 'issue' between owners and family.

The other one (next to me) sold on day 1.

Drop me a mail when you're up... I should be around... in the Evoque ;0) Just got a new puppy yesterday, so am slightly housebound. Need Mrs
and dog's permission to get out!

The NC500 is simply a recent marketing statergy
There are some far better roads/scenery off the suggested route
For example

Er, your first pic is of Advreck Castle which is most definitely on the NC500 route!

Go to the interactive map here - http://www.northcoast500.com/interactive-map.aspx
Enter Sutherland in the first box and History & Heritage in the second.

The second one isn't though. It's the Loch Loyal Lodge boathouse.
Annoyingly, my brain has gone blank atm re the last one..curse

You know the point we are making though winkbiggrin
(everything East of Inverness on the NC500 is pretty mundane IMHO)

Personally I think you need to follow the coastal route as much as possible. It does mean some pretty tight single track roads and some scary blind single track bends and crests, but the joy of rounding a bend to see surprise after surprise. Be it a beautiful beach with clear waters or another loch and mountain view is worth it.
Doing the NC500 isn't about blasting around the route in a couple of days.
Not based on anyone's comments just an observation
I'm going to disagree

🙂 Well clearly I yield your superior knowledge of the area. However I didn't do the NC500, my wife and I did our own route which started quite a way South of the 'recommended' route, didn't include any East coast but did include quite a significant amount of central highlands.
So it appears we actually agree.

How so?
I was actually agreeing and put a smiley face at the beginning, although it shows as ??
It wasn't sarcasm, I was yielding to better knowledge. No ill intention.
So no keyboard warrior here.
🙂 Another attempt at a smiley

That's the road that goes from UIG across to Brogaig near Staffin. That is after you pass the Quiraing view point looking down towards Brogaig.

Absolute hell during holiday season, or if a ferry has landed in the last hour. Good road if you find it deserted though.

It's hell any time of the year, in my opinion. The road surface is thoroughly knackered, and not worth driving except for the views.

Not that great once your over the top, pot holes and broken edges everywhere, care needed when meeting another car........I was up there a few weeks back, cracking views on a clear day.

yes

All of them were taken on that road (B8083) - One. Two. Three. Four.

Uig to the top of the Quiraing is much worse than the lower section down to Staffin.
Which is why we went round the top of the island on the A855 last month instead.

All from my trip last September. The weather was nowhere near as good this year. frown
