After getting lost in Wem on the back roads, I eventually made it to the triangle today
On the way back, I went from Cerrigydrudion to Ruthin on the B5105, I thought I'd got stuck behind an artic towing an empty car transporter trailer, but in fact it was a lesson in how to throw one of those things around on a fairly tight B road. He eventually let me through, with a clear indication and a wave of the hand, at the best place I'd have passed anyway. So if you're reading this Mr TRUCK DRIVER, a big thankyou for putting a big grin on my face today, and letting me through so well. You don't see that very often these days

Stockport! Down the m56 to the m6 then off at junction something or other. I made it to wem town centre, and out the other side, but stopped at a junction and let sat-nav guide me to the left leg of the triangle, BIG MISTAKE!
It decided to take me cross country, big time. Down the singlest singletrack lanes I've ever been down Scared a few horses too!
Still, was worth it for the blast round the triangle

Blimey, quite a circuitous route then! It decided to take me cross country, big time. Down the singlest singletrack lanes I've ever been down Scared a few horses too!

Where is that Carl ^^ Sean took us down there on his run last month, and I'd like to plumb it into my sat-nav so I could find it for a few photos one day.

Where's that steep hill singe track road in DSC00086.jpg ?
That'll be the Hirnant Pass south east of Bala heading towards Lake Vyrnwy.
Not really a road for speed until you get to this point with Foel y Geifr to the right. Even then it's pretty rough, just lots of sheep and sheep sh*t and it does get a bit tight at the top of the hill with some nice sheer drops to the right to keep you on your toes.
Slippy (lesser man ) diff..................

awesome road! On the way back, I went from Cerrigydrudion to Ruthin on the B5105,
i grew up in h-ruthin! i am ashamed to say i have never been around the triangle since having the MCS despite that being two years.. and despite the fact that i have done it in a fiesta! the 5105 is actually better imo although becuase cerrig and ruthin are fairly interconnected in terms of schools and FUW it's not necessarily quite as quiet as it should be.
just thinking about this makes me more and more depressed about living in the SE (even though i am not really a good enough driver to fully appreciate those roads! ).
That’s it CW – What Crazycraig said. It’s the unclassified white that drops right onto the top of Lake Vyrnwy. The pictures show just about the most open part of the road though.
Baskey – You’re right, the 5105 is hard to miss out, however in the summer months it’s a bit of camera and patrol hotspot. (Main route to Betws for the bikers).

The GT2 (and my previous GT3) run very close to the ground (take a peek underneath them and you'll see that not only is the front splitter very low but the brake ducts attached to the front wishbones are even lower still)This however is only part of the problem, compare the GT2 to something like my previous Impreza P1 and you'll appreciate just how little wheel travel the Porsche has compared to the Impreza.
At static ride height the GT2 has maybe 3 inches of compression travel left and the same (if not less) in droop, the Impreza on the other hand had closer to 5 or 6 inches of compression with 4 inches of droop
The long and short of it being that the Impreza being more compliant (for which read more softly damped and sprung ) stays in touch with the tarmac for more of the time.
There are some cresty sections leading up to Lake Brenig (heading north from Cerrigydrudion) that would have the GT3 well airborne (in it's defence it flew rather well) but the resultant noises from it's undercarriage upon landing weren't for the faint hearted. The Impreza shrugged the same crests off without a problem.
Venture off the main roads of the Triangle onto some of the narrower, twistier and poorly surfaced roads close to it, and the Porsche rapidly starts to loose its composure as its stiff suspension just can't cope with the sharp crests and undulating surfaces.
The road from Lake Vyrnwy to Dinas Mawddy perfectly illustrated how the lack of suspension travel (and too stiffer suspension) not to mention a massive lack of driving talent doesn't mix well with fast cresty roads.......................
I see from the Sept issue of evo that they've been visiting some of their favourite roads in North Wales again. Fantastic Lamborghini test on pages 113-131, with stunning photos. I recognize some from the triangle having driven it three times this year, but not sure where the others were taken. Can anyone enlighten me? Would love to know where the fabulous panoramic shot on pages 126-127 is from.

I might be able to give you a clue if you can you scan the pics and post them ? (I stopped my subscription to Evo a couple of years ago !! I only buy it now if there's something I really HAVE to read about !)

I was driven round the triangle this Sunday after wanting to do it myself for ages but never being in the right place at the right time. Apart from a short rollercoastery bit on the eastern side I was beginning to wonder what all the fuss was about, but the road and the view on the western side put an end to that. Apart from having a worrying moment involving a cognitively-challenged girl attempting a 7-point turn after a blind bend, it was a great ride. We did find some comparably great roads whilst beating a path home, but I can't remember their numbers and i'm going to keep them all to myself because i'm selfish .
