I think we did this route back from Castle Combe to Basingstoke last weekend. GREAT. Scenic. Fast (urrmn we were anyway). Nice villages etc to slow down for then floor it out of. Worth the bother rather than just staying on the M4 all the way (no fun with the top off).

I concur - the run from Calne to Marlborough is esp. good...

Yeah well tough titty guys because on Friday the powers that be put up 'Speed Camera' signs all the way from the Berkshire border just west of Hungerford, to at least Calne. The yellow perils themselves have not (yet) appeared, but spose will not be long. A lovely road to do a bit of high-speed driving (so I'm told, never done it meself) comes off the 'fun' list

Don't worry too much about the speed camera signs - a few more have just appeared this week between Calne and the Somerset border at Box. As I've been noticing for some time, Councils spend rather more money on the signs than they do on the cameras....

The 'speed camera' signs have been up for some months now, but no pretty yellow boxes. Why, I wondered?

Well now we know - there won't be any nice, predictable, visible fixed cameras. Instead, "From 11/01/2003 Mobile Safety Camera Units will be operating on the A4"

So be very wary!
