The road to Leeds

I'm off to Leeds (Via Peterborough, from Surrey) and I wondered if anybody knows of any driver's roads to enjoy along the way?
I'm up the A1 to Peterborough. Can't afford the time to play, but the Peterborough to Leeds part is fair-game. As it's likely to be the last of the sunny weather i thought it is my duty to enjoy it down some winding back roads.
Anyone?
