If you head over Dunstable downs way, there are loads....a quick thrash up the Milton Keynes bypass dual carriageway and then turn left and head through the villages and fabulous single-carriageways. In summer, like France and fabulous pubs to stop at.

Alternately B660 from Kimbolton going North is nothing short of incredible.

M11 side of the A1 is a bit thinner on the ground

If you head up the A1 and turn off at Baldock follow the road into the town and turn left at the superstore roundabout. Carry on and the next roundabout turn right, this road goes on for about 5 miles.

This is a superb road, I have regulary been down it on a ZX9, and my mate took his Lotus down there, lots of lovely corners and long straights.

Do the B1198 every time I go to the office - lurvely.. The only problem is go when there wont be much traffic. Like out of peak times and you will be fine....

The B158 from Brookmans Park to Hertford is 7 miles of sheer driving bliss. It has everything. Fast straights, fast sweeping bends, narrow twisty sections and a superb inclined S bend near Essendon. Known locally as the Race Track, it has a good surface and is a superb road to drive!

I find that the more these roads are discussed, the more likely that a camera infestation developes...

However I agree with you about the baldock road. Just watch the hills for rozzers with binoculars & vascar equipment. They have a nasty habit of hiding way out of the way, timing you, and radioing to their buddy up the road. You have been advised !

There's a great run from RAF chicksands to the A1, lots of wide roads and roundabouts that you can blip over at speed. Always get lots of bikes thrashing it in the summer.

Also if you drive out of Woburn the road that leads to Hockliffe is 4 miles of superb sweeping bends.........

It used to be RAF Chichsands, but is now used as a Tri-service centre and is just called Chicksands

A413, Aylesbury to Buckingham. This is a beaut, bike or car. Approx 12 miles good quality twisties, with a nice little village (30mph zone) inbetween.
Or, there's the main road between Leighton Buzzard and Milton Keynes, some twisties and couple of long wide straights.(poss allready been mentioned).
I can also vouch for the Woburn to Hockliffe rd.

Responding to a previous thread, mentioning Kimbolton, the B645 from the A1 at St.Neots to Higham Ferrers is a fabulous stretch of road. It has a very good surface, long straights, and at some points you can see up to 4 bends stretching into the distance. Be careful of the hidden dips though. There are several villages to encounter, but the NSL signs seem to act as start flags. Enjoy!

I took a little detour an drove the B158 from Essendon to Hertford on my way from St Albans to Mersea Island in Essex after your recommendation and I was pleasantly surprised.
It is a truly decent road considering it's location, with as you say a number of twisty sections and straights, but my favourite bit is just as you drive out of Hertford, past the garden centre, there is a series of 'chicanes' lined by ten foot high hedges either side, so good even my girlfriend enjoyed it

I like the A5130 from Woburn Sands, through Woburn then onto Hockliffe and Leighton.

Can be a great road with not too much traffic if your lucky!

...agree it's a good drive but there are THREE lovely GATSOs in each direction. They're well sighted so you shoudl be OK but it's well worth a reccy the first time.

The B1040 between Biggleswade and St. Ives is almost 20 miles of fun. Apparently it's one of VBH's favourites Then you can try the A1123 from St. Ives towards Newmarket.

The B656 between Codicote (Nr Welwyn) and Hitchin is a nice twisty little stretch with a couple of overtaking opportunities. It's popular with bikers though so attracts some attention and it's not long enough to justify a detour.
