Road repairs

Think I remember someone on here being an expert on road surfaces and so I was hoping that I could be told why repairs are not sealed around the edges any more? All this seems to do is create more and more potholes as the edges break up and you end up getting long sections of rough tarmac damaging the car.

Is there any development for a repair sealant that wont be slippery for motorcyclists? Seems to obvious that the lack of it causes more holes and so the need for more money to be spent on temporary repairs that rarely last more than a month. Not having a go lol.
