My DDR GT4 build
Discussion
Engine has been running fine on the drive, why on the drive I'm still waiting on the side windows. Hopefully will be fitted this week so I can take the car out over the bank holiday.got a few other jobs done;
- Front ride height at 85mm to clear speed humps
- Wax'd wheels to help keep brake dust off
- Exhaust exit fitted, but will change again as it doesn't suit the car
- Exterior Door handles removed and remote eletric opening system fitted
- Car undersealed + arches
- Front arch foam protection to stop fibreglass starring
- temporary door cards made to tidy doors up
First time I've been lucky enough to drive the car with no major issues other than running a bit hot. Not overheating just running hot.
Although think I've found the cause and hopefully a solution in for next weekend.

Always nice to have a friend
So things different about this one is, it has a rear design change in a few areas which I think do work better.

- exhaust hole in middle
- rear vent not flush but sit back
- vents on the top

Made it to a local PH meet a few weeks back and still had some niggles on way there and back;
Put on some MeisterR coilovers, which although I suspect are produced at the same factory do have differences. Its now nice to drive the car, rides the bumps well, reasonably soft and not crashing and banging from the coilovers! I believe they use a slightly larger valve in the damper and use a longer damper stroke / spring on the rear.
Now I think the clutch is slipping slightly with the higher power so turned the power back down for time being whilst I sort out the bits to do that on the drive, never done a clutch before!
And lastly this picture taken by Rob (I think) at the PH local meet
- Headlight plastic clip holder popped out of bracket - plastic clip replaced
- Coilover top mount nut came loose - known issue

Very nice, great colour choice.
Its crying out for a carbon rear spoiler though to complete the rear end?
I'm not sure what to do with the rear end wing wise, got use to it without one. then I think maybe a wing would be good and then I get stuck choosing between carbon one to more of a moulded bodywork type one.Its crying out for a carbon rear spoiler though to complete the rear end?
Something ill have to make a decision on eventually.
latest bits have been;
Looks like im finally getting there in terms of a reliable normal car - 900 miles now complete.
- Change of clutch on driveway - NEVER AGAIN!!!
- Change of coilovers to Meister R from BC racing - much better ride!
- laser cut badge for the front

Amazing work, looks very purposeful and a genuine Supercar sitting on the tarmac in that last pic!
Do you mind sharing how much you think you have spent getting to this point?
Basically to build your own it could be done for under £30k but depends on the parts you buy the more it becomes. Also the final finish.Do you mind sharing how much you think you have spent getting to this point?
An example is mine has a generic alloy rad + slimline fans less than £200, but a mishimoto racing rad and spal fans £450+
Never been quite happy with the rear of the car so far, so with reliability basically there (touch wood) and 1200miles covered time to work on the nice bits I want to before the winter.
So the first part to the rear was to break up the chunk of red it just didnt look right. So I decided to use plasti dip in the end between the two light pod areas. It is a much better product than i expected and can see why people spray whole cars for a matt finish.
It was hard to pull off a clean line when you don't have an edge to pull against, but I suspect a sharp knife run over the top would help and a small piece of wood to give an edge to pull against.
Next is to change the rear lights, then to look into a spoiler and finally do I move the exhausts back down the bottom to exit on each side.

Did a new video, gave me a good chance to improve videoing and editing skills...which wouldn't be hard compared to the past ones!

A diffuser on the rear bumper like you see on the rear of a Clio 197 and the exhausts sitting either side should finish it off nicely.
Looks stunning!
I'd be tempted to get an interior specialist company to sort the inside though.
thanks ill take a look into that rear bumper / diffuser set up.Looks stunning!

As for the interior - its poor for a reason currently, little effort and money (on purpose though). I'll build it into the shape I want this winter, get some of it hydrodipped and flocked with some new seats. Its the worse part of the build by a long shot, but at least its for a reason.

I think if it was mine I'd have twin round tips low down in each side. A diffuser in the middle then just the decision on the numberplate whether it's between the lights or lower down on the bumper
exactly this it would be twin tips each side. I think if I can find a diffuser that would fit over what ive got that would be nice and simple! I need to fit the new lights once made to see what I do with the number plate position etc...One last drive before the car was SORN'd for the winter
then straight on to work, first I test fitted the new seats, much nicer
Then set to work of taking out the whole interior which only took a couple of hours.
Plan of action is;

Plan of action is;
- Clean all the dust from the bodyshop work
- lower air con unit 15mm+
- tidy up new wiring added since IVA
- Test 7" rear view screen
- Design new dashboard
- Make out of fibreglass
- get it professionally covered in some form
- recarpet

Good stuff, look forward to reading this.
I've managed to read it now and its quite good capturing the challenges I had. The last paragraph has the car at 190bhp, which was the power with all the headgasket issues and boost low, but has been 290bhp for couple of months now.Gassing Station | Readers' Cars | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
