The outgoing engine. That's fair enough, I thought perhaps you could shed some light on the hurdles of converting NA to FI. Unfortunately SC 350s aren't particularly common so info is fairly thin on the ground. Thanks for the reply nonetheless.
Specs on the outgoing motor can be seen in the sale ad on ebay:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/281536450517?item=28153645...

The need for stronger internals is probably going to be governed by the amount
of boost you will be running, turbo or SC, etc. Hardware is probably also going
to be the least of your problems, programming the ECU properly is the hard part.

i've only just stumbled upon this thread. good luck with the build, i'll watch with interest.
i sold my e30 m3 v10 a couple of weeks ago, and have just started an e46 m3 v10 project
Good to know of others that have swapped the S85 into an E30,
might have to pick your brain when the time comes, pretty sure
there will be alot of headscratching smile

Ok, I went to my friends place in Denmark and picked up the head, he brought it from the US.

Of course it was promptly packed in a suitcase for transport to Iceland:

Rather heavy!!!

That suitcase will not be used again.....

Any updates?
Just prepping the S50B32 for it´s new owner. Putting in the Carrillo rods,
removing the dry sump setup, new headgasket, sourcing a new crank pulley & oil setup etc.

Once this is out the door & all the funds in - things will get moving again.

Dual clutch box assembled in Denmark with upgraded clutch disks - ready for shipment - need to get it to Iceland.

Also, bought these - critical stuff at this stage in the project:

Finally the S50 engine is sold & paid for.

Gave up on the original buyer and sold it locally - here is the happy new owner picking it up:

Will go into a mint 1990 E30 316.

So now the S85 is on the engine stand with the parts list.....

V10 with the DCT is a super nice modern drivetrain combo. 7 gears to keep the V10 in the power band all the time.
For me this is the ultimate BMW drivetrain into the best looking BMW body.

I know the purists view of going manual only but I have another BMW for that wink

Just read the thread from the link on e30 zone. Here is a photo of my v10 e30 m3. one suggestion I have is to cut the front off the oil pan ( sump) to the oil level sensor, this will allow you to mount the crossmember / steering rack as far back as possible
Plan is to run the old dry sump setup so I´ll have to either source a dry sump pan or make my own.

Yours looks super nice and tidy. I might have to pick your brains at some point wink

After a longer than expected stop in a colleagues garage, we packed the DCT box for transport to Iceland few days ago:

We think we´re pretty good at packing smile

Hope to have it here in Iceland in 2 weeks or so.

Any updates on this OP - How are you getting on with the software matching for the V10 and DCT/DKG transmission?

Regards
I have contacts that have the software sorted.

Test fitted the DCT, fits better than I had expected:

Will there be enough room for wiring etc?
I will remove the sound deadening material and that will give extra space.

I decided to go for a manual 6 speed behind my V10... decided is a strong word as my wife insisted on a manual!

Are you going to be upgrading any of the internals? crank, vanos etc? or 'just' doing a refresh?
I will be going with CP pistons and Carrillo rods. Block is sleeved.

Still debating whether to go for the stroker crank.

I think I need to work on the man maths some more for that to happen.
