I need to do the Tstat on mine also. Code P2181? Tstat stuck open so engine doesn't reach operating temp. What temps are you seeing - should be around 85c (turbo may vary).
It's quite straightforward to change on the 4.8, just need to remove the throttle body and a couple of pipes.
4.5 is much more involved requiring the inlet manifold to be removed - presumably the turbo is the same? If so, you probably should take the opportunity to clean all the valves from carbon build up, check the secondary intake solenoids, wiring and vacuum lines, replace the water pump, replace pulley, replace the serpentine belt, replace coolant.

Yup that looks to be the case, I'm going to take it to a local place as its a bit too involved for me + the weather is all wrong for working for hours on a car on the driveway.
The car gets up to temp fine but it can drop a bit on longer motorway runs, there wasn't a CEL for it either.
I'm going to hold off on the MPG challenge until both are replaced next week.

Mine doesn't throw a CEL either but won't go above 60c. Is the 4.5 Dfi? If so, definitely enquire about valve cleaning while the manifold is off.
Other thing to consider is replacing the coil packs. But you're already into a lot of money with the Tstat change.
Look to replace all the vacuum lines that are exposed when the manifold is removed. Basically anything preventative that you can access with the manifold off.

What is this 30mpg witchcraft? My 4.8 na will see 23mpg at best on the motorway. Maybe because the turbo has lower compression and you drive it off boost?
Seems a little pointless to own a 520bhp panzer if you are going to drive it like Miss Daisy though
Lower compression = less efficient/worse mpg.. Seems a little pointless to own a 520bhp panzer if you are going to drive it like Miss Daisy though

Well, if nothing else, at least the Flux Capacitor appears to be operational.
Cayenne gets it's time/date from satellite updates, so should always be correct. However, there was a glitch meaning that it would lose ~2min per day. They finally got round to fixing it last year but it reset the date to 01-01-2003 or such. There is no way to manually alter the date, unlike the clock.
Cayenne is in the shop this week, the original jobs were:
Cam shaft position sensor
Thermostat
Spark plugs
Coil packs
But I had a hunch that as soon as they started taking bits off more would be needed:
Rocker cover gaskets
Lots of degraded hoses
I also need to get a transmission fluid change done soon, but that can wait till after this bill
I wonder if I will feel much difference in the car when its back, probably not.
