R500L dropped off this morning at my indy and he suspects that the warning is an wheel sensor and that the screeching noise is the air con compressor. Fingers crossed that he can sort it by 4pm today.
That'd be a result if they can!

I've love to say "It'll be really nice to enjoy it once it's all sorted" but my late 00s Mercedes-Benz experience tells me it will never, ever be sorted and it will just be one thing after another after another until you actively despise the car and every journey has a low level of stress about "will I be able to complete it without an issue" or "will I be able to complete it at all".

Just to bring some cheer into the thread, you understand hehe

It’s only once you started to actively promote this line of thought in the OG thread that it started to seem more and more true!

I'd rather try and run an old RR Shadow than another decade old Mercedes. True story.

Stop this silliness, we all know that I love it.

Speaking of which, my indy called me and is aiming to replace the air con compressor which he says is failing. If he can't replace it, he'll bypass it with a belt in order to get me on the road.

The ABS/EPS issue is a wheel sensor that can be driven as is, but will also be replaced, time permitting.

Hopefully, I'll have a vehicle to collect tomorrow AM and then straight down to Portsmouth!

Have today secured RAC cover for everything bar misfueling, just because of GoL. I preferred Stickleback personally, but then again, they don't make them like they used to!

If you need a workshop whilst down there, PCS are highly recommended for Merc > https://www.prestigecarservice.co.uk/services

I’ve been sorely tempted over the years, as they have a good reputation, but the convenience of my local indy outweighs the potential benefits and labour cost saving.

I think that the rear quarter stance is pretty cool with this sporty set up. Great colour, too.

It's like a modern day Zafira VXR hehe

Curious, by ‘Vel Satis’ of MB, do you mean ugly, luxurious or misunderstood — or a combination of?
All of the above biglaugh
But I mean it as a compliment, I've always appreciated the daring choice the Vel Satis was, and I classify it together with the bold, innovative choices that e.g. Citroen used to make in the past (e.g. hydraulic suspension and brakes, the design of cars as the DS, 2CV, Ami etc, NOT their latest drivel obviously). The R class is in it self innovative to me exactly because of my last point, i.e. it brings together a number of properties that are valuable. In a way it was ahead of its time as today, the V-class has become the 'limo' of choice for the rich & famous...
bolidemichael said:
Yea, the lwb is definitely a contributor to the limo feel — it’s funny how one can sense the size and associated comfort

You’re possibly correct, I hadn’t really thought of it like that but with seven seats, MB quality and four wheel drive… it doesn’t have the Sloane Ranger feel of the FFRR though.
Best of luck for tomorrow, and for the wheels, perhaps consider the Mercury Grey that Maserati used on e.g. the Gransport

(I am very biased and not even trying to hide it)

AC43 said that I should just ignore any non-silver representations, but I can’t resist. The darker alloys make the naughty tailpipes rudely protrude, and I like it.

You didn’t say anything about the reference to the E500… which one do/did you own?

The service manager at my indy used to deal with an original owner of a W251 5.5L when he was at MB Chelsea. He didn’t mention anything about the profile or customer but did remark on the cost when new… around £85k iirc!

Possibly a wealthy Catholic with lots of children.
